  • ALA-accredited master's degree or equivalent in Library/Information Sciences focusing on archives and records management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of archival trends, theories, and best practices.
  • Strong communication, planning, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in university archives, special collections, or museum;
  • Evidence of successful grant writing and management;
  • Successful development and fundraising experience;
  • Experience with archival and records management systems;
  • Knowledge of preservation and long-term access;
  • Knowledge of copyright and licensing best practices.
Job Description:

The Head of Special Collections and Archives provides visionary leadership and organizational direction for University Libraries programs and initiatives around university archives and special collections. This position manages people and resources across a diverse set of activities, collaborating inside and outside of University Libraries on activities such as teaching and conducting research with primary source materials, as well as building, preserving, and making accessible a strong collection representing the history of the University. This position will also work with university partners to seek out new collections in the continued development of a robust digital collections and archives program; leading growth in community-engaged, non-extractive archiving and post-custodial approaches to stewardship; and pursuing broad equity and information justice goals consistent with University Libraries strategic plans.

Job Duties:

  • Providing vision and leadership in developing special collections and archives of the University;
  • Managing the operations of the special collections and archives;
  • Oversee organization, acquisition, and use of collections
  • Develops and implements workflows and procedures based on best practices for archival processing, reference, and collection management;
  • Directs the efficient, appropriate, and timely expenditure of the department budget, which includes exhibit planning, supplies, student employees, and outreach;
  • Collaborating with other units at the library on digital preservation planning to ensure long-term accessibility of digital assets.
