EMD Serono in Billerica, MA is hiring a Veterinary Technologist for the Comparative Medicine group, reporting to the Vivarium Manager. This role will provide animal care, training and technical support to the animal care and research staff.

Responsibilities:

Oversee and manage technical support and breeding colony management for the Research unitsProvide hands-on/procedure training for animal care and research staffOversee and maintain the training program, developing process improvements and efficienciesProvide technical study support for Scientists (i.e. dosing, blood collection, euthanasia, take-downs, tissue collection, etc.)Provide support of staff education and trainingMonitor and ensure animal welfare, industry standards, IACUC policy, protocol and regulatory complianceProcess animal orders through Tick@Lab; procurement of animal related supplies & equipmentLiaise with, contribute, support, and provide data and information to the Veterinarian, Vivarium Manager and research staff in support of global SQ-Animal Affairs related activities/workstreamsProvide oversight of the Health, Environmental, Pest Monitoring, Training, Enrichment and Vivarium programs, developing process improvements and efficienciesSupport IACUC functions (i.e., Inspections, Program Reviews, PAMs, IACUC Agendas/Minutes, AW Incident reporting, etc.)Support the triennial AAALAC site visits

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or other Scientific field with 5+ years of experience in animal handling

Preferred Qualifications:

LAT or LATg certificationDemonstrated successful experience working within an AAALAC accredited animal facilityProficient in basic rodent techniques: PO, IP, IV, SQ, IM injections; blood collection via submandibular vein, cardiac puncture; euthanasia, etc.Breeding colony management experience, including an understanding of breeding schemes, performing tail biopsies, genotyping, record keeping, etc.5+ years professional experience in R&D in biopharma or biotech environmentStrong verbal and written communication skillsExcellent organizational skills: demonstrated ability to work on and balance multiple projects and timelinesHighly motivated and results-orientedStrong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively relate with diverse stakeholdersAbility to exercise good judgment and make decisions in a variety of situationsAbility to work under pressure and to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with tact, discretion, and diplomacyTeam player with a track record of developing rapport and credibility with colleaguesProficient with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity and experience with a vivarium software management system
