Utilities Technician

Overview:

  • Responsible for the operation and troubleshooting of these systems to ensure safety, reliability, efficiency, and to meet all local, environmental, and process safety management regulations
  • Responsible for meeting the daily operation needs of the utilities systems which includes, but is not limited to monitoring of the systems through inspection rounds of equipment and operating/troubleshooting equipment in order to fulfill plant operation needs
  • Assist in the utilities system operations and perform daily tasks, inspections and simple tests
  • Assist in the recording, addressing and communicating pertinent operations parameters, alarms, events and abnormalities
  • Complete HAZMAT technician physical and training requirement each year and respond during emergencies with assigned responsibility
  • Work towards completion of Utilities Technician A requirements: RETA CIRO & Waster Water C License
  • Assist in the shutdown, isolation, and evacuation of equipment for maintenance activities and returning equipment to normal operation
  • Drain oil and water from system as required during performing normal operating duties
  • Create notifications in the INFOR CMMS as needed for issues identified during normal operating duties
  • Order supplies as necessary by creating reservations in INFOR CMMS
  • Comply with plant regulatory compliance programs
  • Perform housekeeping (GMP) responsibilities as assigned
  • Perform special functions as may be assigned by utilities department leadership
  • Reports directly to the Utilities Lead on Shift and Utilities Operations Advisor

Required Skills and Experience

  • Industrial Ammonia Refrigeration System and/or Waste Water Treatment experience preferred
  • RETA CARO certification (or equivalent test) preferred
  • State of Florida DEP Wastewater Operator license (C level or higher) preferred
  • Ability to qualify as a HAZMAT Technician
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to an ever changing environment
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work with others towards a common goal (Team player)
  • Ability to prioritize, based on needs of customers and system demands
  • Proficient at using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and general computer use
  • Ability to read processing diagrams and flow charts and follow directions
  • Good reading, arithmetic, inspection, measurement, and process monitoring skills
  • Basic understanding of process equipment (pumps, chemical feed systems, valves)
  • Good mechanical aptitude, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, use forklift, aerial platforms, and small hand tools
  • Demonstrates a professional attitude to hourly and salaried personnel
  • Ability to work from heights, capable of lifting 50 lbs., and work in extreme temperatures
  • Follow all Plant and Departmental Rules
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours within the scope of union agreement

Safety:

  • Must adhere to PPE requirements set forth by the department
  • Ensure all safety rules, procedure, policies and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are followed
  • Will stay up to date on all required peak performance safety training

Progression

This is a developmental position in the progression to becoming a Utilities Technician A (Trades III) at Tropicana-Bradenton. The training and progression plan time frame can vary based on experience, but normally can take a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 4 years. Training falls under the supervision of the Utilities Trainer and the Utilities Operations Advisor. If unable to complete the requirements to progress from a Utilities Technician C to a Utilities Technician A within 4 years will result in a review of progress in the program and may lead to termination.

The salary range for this position is $28.08 hourly.
