Position Information

The ideal candidate will tour and evaluate dozens of water systems every year in multiple states and should have an interest, curiosity, and passion for water and wastewater concepts such as: treatment, distribution, collection, chemistry, hydraulics, electricity, etc. Location is St. Louis but can also sit anywhere within footprint of IA, IL, MO or IN

Primary Role

The Sr. Due Diligence Project Manager supports the Business Development team and functional areas by managing due diligence efforts related to water and wastewater system acquisitions. The ideal candidate should have an interest, curiosity, and passion for water and wastewater concepts such as: treatment, distribution, collection, chemistry, hydraulics, electricity, etc.

Key Accountabilities

  • Proactively build and maintain strong customer relationships; maintain consistent communication, manage customer needs and expectations by meeting project timelines.
  • Prepares correspondence/provides information for distribution and presentations to department leadership.
  • Acts a single point of contact among state and corporate functional groups and seller to provide information, make decisions, and assist with acquisition and proposal process.
  • Manage relationships with assigned areas of the company for the purpose of driving continuous improvement and delivering projects.
  • Support activities at all stages of new acquisitions, including relationship building, document review, review of proposals, report creation, site visits, and asset evaluation and risk assessment.
  • Work with multiple business areas to identify risks and challenges, evaluate assets, and recommend solutions with projected costs by working with multiple project teams [including finance, operations, engineering, regulatory].
  • Use critical thinking methods to demonstrate opportunity and execute for continuous improvement
  • Lead project teams and manage performance in a matrix organization.
  • Perform complex data analysis, gather data through SAP/BI/Powerplant and develop process controls through analytics and statistical methods.
  • Ensure that appropriate Safety Management systems are established and implemented for all projects.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Advanced knowledge and use of office productivity tools (MS Office, Teams, etc.).
  • Enterprise systems knowledge, SAP preferred.
  • Diverse knowledge of water and wastewater concepts such as: treatment, distribution, collection, chemistry, hydraulics, electricity, etc.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of company procedures, policies and operations.
  • Strong project management skills (e.g. planning, organizing, directing, monitoring and reporting on project activities). A strong sense of organization and schedule, ability to self-direct and prioritize a large number of often non-sequential tasks on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project
  • Project planning skills: Good verbal and written communication skills (e.g. , presentation, listening, report writing). Ability to work on several projects at a time and prioritize time and effort effectively
  • Computer literacy: Competent in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, flow-charting, project scheduling.
  • Financial analysis skill, including budget management, business modeling, and basic accounting knowledge.
  • Report writing: Ability to summarize and communicate using charts, graphs, photos in a consistent format
  • Presenting: Findings from project must be presented to multiple functions within the business
  • Analysis and Problem Solving: Analyzes and resolves business issues through the application of critical reasoning skills and general business experience.
  • Teamworking: Is committed to working collaboratively to achieve business goals, building cohesiveness and identity with a work group, and valuing individual perspectives and contributions.

Experience/Education

  • 5 years or greater practical business experience in functional or operational role with regulated utility or comparable business organization.
  • Four-year undergraduate degree required. May be substituted with water operations experience.
  • Master's degree a plus.
  • PMP certification a plus.

Travel Requirements

  • 20% travel required site visits, meetings, and summits.

Work Environment

  • Typical office environment with occasional site visits.
  • Hybrid working schedule (at least 3 days in office).
