The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Washington University in St. Louis seeks to hire a full-time lecturer in Spanish with expertise in Hispanic linguistics, on the teaching track, starting in August 2024 for the 2024-2025 academic year.

This role requires duties equivalent to a full-time teaching load, which includes a combination of teaching and other departmental service and advising as appropriate. Teaching-track faculty in Romance Languages and Literatures regularly have an assignment of three courses per semester in addition to a service component such as course coordination.

Initial appointments at the rank of lecturer are renewed on an annual basis, and reappointment is contingent upon a successful annual evaluation and review. Teaching track faculty will not be evaluated on or expected to engage in research or scholarship as part of their appointment.

Qualifications

Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D./terminal degree in Spanish or a related field by the time of appointment. We seek a colleague able to teach at all levels of our undergraduate program, including elementary, intermediate, and advanced language and content courses and upper-level courses with topics in linguistics, such as introductory Hispanic linguistics, sociolinguistics, and upper-level Spanish syntax, phonology, or both. Experience or interest in course coordination is very welcome.
