Senior Research Associate, Analytical Development

The Role:
Reporting to the Characterization Group Lead, the individual in this role participates in performing biochemical and biophysical characterization. The scope of the mRNA analytical characterization work extends the RNA/DNA sequencing, HPLC, impurities and residuals characterization, spectroscopy, calorimetry, forced degradation studies. Prior hands-on experience with most of these analytical techniques would be preferred. In addition, the individual helps design and coordinates characterization and/or comparability studies and compiles the data packages into reports to support advancement of Moderna's development candidates. Clear and concise scientific writing skills are required. The individual presents scientific findings/results internally or externally. The individual evaluates new technologies, develops analytical methods, optimizes methods and writes methods SOPs. The individual will work with other RAs and Scientists within the Analytical Development, Analytical Technical Operations and Process Development teams as part of cross-functional teams.

Here's What You'll Do:

• Preparation of samples for characterization studies
  
• Performing biochemical and biophysical characterization assays
  
• Performing data analysis and trending
  
• Draft characterization reports in support of regulatory filings
  
• Closely collaborate with other members within the group and with R&D departments throughout the company
  
• Accountable for project success and results delivery
  
• Record and communicate findings
  
• Presentation of results at internal meetings
  
• Perform general laboratory support activities including equipment maintenance and housekeeping
  
• Perform data entry utilizing good documentation practices
  
• Write/Revise SOPs related to job function
  

Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:

• BS with at least 2 years of industry experience, (Biophysics, Chromatography, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related science), OR MS
  
• Experience in performing biophysical characterization with focus on mRNA structural characterization
  
• Experience with spectroscopy and calorimetry
  
• Excellent writing and documentation skills
  
• Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills
  
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a highly dynamic environment
