Work Location: Marlborough, MA - Hybrid, 3 days a week in office

What you will be doing:

This role will be reporting to the VP of Liquid technology and Regulatory. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing mentorship for the technical product development for personal care and OTC products. This starts with the design phase, continues with the testing phase, and finally supports commercialization. You will be encouraged to lead technical execution for formula development and design, stability and safety testing, and assessment of results working with our third-party partners. Develop processes and lead testing to ensure both new and improved existing formulations are stable, safe for use, compliant and manufactured to the highest standards. This role will support all facets of liquids' development working closely with product development and marketing.

  • Work directly with Product development supporting all technical aspects of over-the-counter drugs and cosmetic formulation.
  • Supervise 3 formulation chemists and be responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of the MBO lab.
  • Drive the technical development path of our external resources setting clear objectives and expectations.
  • Implement a robust system to manage, track, and assess stability and safety testing for all products, ensuring alignment to predefined goals and standards.
  • Support all facets of technical product compliance, including product claims, label copy, ESG and packaging as they relate to formulation and ingredients.
  • Evaluate technical ability of contract fillers and third-party testing facilities.
  • Take charge of all internal/external technical testing including safety, PET, RIPT, and technical claims' testing. Drive alignment in both design and execution with established innovation goals.
  • Provide targeted support to operations and other internal partners with a concentration on problem resolution for formula, process, and raw material issues including optimization designed to drive cost savings and improved product quality.
  • Work closely with PD to support testing of new product concepts and materials ensuring alignment with establish goals and roadmap objectives.
  • Work directly with package engineering to support all package development initiatives.
  • Support regulatory resources with technical formulation expertise on formulations and ingredients.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or chemical engineering or other related field such as pharmacology.
  • 10+ years of experience from within world-class companies.
  • Strong cosmetics R&D background.
  • A track record characterized by strong leadership and a successful product development pipeline.
  • Professional experience with outsourcing product development efforts.
  • Minimum of 10 years in a cosmetic science related role with at least 5 years of bench work in cosmetic formulation.
  • Hands on experience developing a broad range of product types including liquids, emulsions, suspensions, and aerosols.
  • Proven understanding of raw material chemistry.
  • Understanding of individual state and FDA Cosmetic/OTC regulations as they relate to formulation.
  • Execution of stability and other testing protocols and interpretation of results with an ability to provide corrective mentorship.
  • Design/placement of product efficacy testing with an understanding of published methodologies common to our work.
  • Working in/with multi-disciplined teams with an ability to balance science and the language of beauty products critical to brand profile.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
