Hiring Range: This position's hiring range is anticipated to be $16.75 to $17.00/hour, depending on experience, plus great benefits!

Interviews will occur weekly until the position is filled.

Summary: The Roadhouse Mercantile PT Seasonal Ambassadoris responsible for providing exceptional guest service in the Mercantile and on Roadhouse grounds,must be diligent in providing Best Friends visitors with an enthusiastic welcome and educational experience. The Roadhouse Mercantile Ambassador is responsible for providing our visitors with quality experience through informative and engaging tours of the Sanctuary. They must possess a strong ability to multi-task, be flexible and remain focused in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Will Primarily be running Sanctuary tours from in town Kanab areas, such as the Kanab Tourism Center, The Roadhouse and Mercantile and other local hotels and RV parks as requested.

Responsible for helping maintain the Mercantile in guest-presentable conditions at all times. The Mercantile Ambassador facilitates retail purchases, assists with meal and event set-ups and service when needed, provides directions, assists with pets, helping guests with problem solving while working as a member of the Roadhouse team to serve our guests well.

The Mercantile Ambassador works closely with the Roadhouse Front Desk and Welcome Center team as well as other associates to provide a high level of personal service to our lodging guests and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide a friendly welcome to visitors and guests including people and pets.
  • Facilitates retail purchases of food, beverage and/or merchandise.
  • Properly and graciously handles all guest and visitor requests.
  • Provides directions and assists with activities.
  • Restocks supplies as needed.
  • Ensures a clean and well-organized environment.
  • Engages visitors and guests in the work of Best Friends.
  • Create and provide informative and up-to-date tours on a variety of topics including Best Friends History and Mission.

  • Become conversant on all Best Friends projects, rollouts, policies, programs, and animal care in order to answer questions and engage visitors.
  • Engage with guests and help them navigate their visit i.e. volunteering, adopting, touring, lodging.
  • Invite our guests to become members and support our mission.
  • Inspire our guests to be involved in the no kill movement in their communities through volunteering, advocacy and sharing their experience.
  • Assist guests by researching membership status on Hero, locating pet placements, assisting guests in securing volunteer shifts, sleepovers, and encouraging Action Team sign ups.
  • Help run events such as kitten bingo, and Roadhouse music nights including set up of space, clean up afterward and ringing up sales in Mercantile during the events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

  • One year work experience, preferably in a customer service role.
  • Outgoing positive personality and communication skills.
  • The ideal person for this job will be a team player, personable, professional and able to work cooperatively with a wide variety of associates, guests and visitors.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to be flexible and adaptable in order to provide an outstanding guest experience.
  • Able to handle a variety of tasks and requests with changing priorities. Must be comfortable with technology and proficient with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with Point Of Sale systems (POS) a plus.
  • Ability to work a flexible, Full time schedule including days, evenings, weekends and holidays during the months of May through October 31, 2024.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to routinely lift 40 pounds or more to stock supplies and serve guests.
  • Must be able to work out of doors in all weather conditions to support guest needs and events, including baggage handling.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis including standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and kneeling in order to support guest interactions.
