This position is with The Florida Center for Reading Research, located in Innovation Park at 2010 Levy Avenue.

The Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR) conducts primary research on reading and reading related issues, while also translating research to support the uptake and use of evidence-based practices in schools and communities. FCRR accomplishes these activities through several active research projects and through robust partnerships with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

The candidate in this position will work with faculty, staff, and students within The Village at FCRR, and school and community partners to develop and implement a research, dissemination, and engagement agenda that is responsive to the needs of specific, targeted communities and stakeholders.

This is a Research Faculty I or Research Faculty II specialized faculty position. Primary responsibilities for this position will include contributing to the development, design, implementation, analysis, and dissemination of research evidence from projects within The Village.

The candidate will join a diverse, interdisciplinary group of colleagues and students at FCRR. Drawing from multiple disciplines, FCRR investigates all aspects of reading and reading-related skills across the lifespan. Through rigorous and robust research, innovation, and engagement, FCRR advances the science of reading to improve learning and achievement from birth through adulthood. The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to activities across FCRR, including collaborating on research projects, partnerships with local schools and communities, and supporting undergraduate and graduate student training.

Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Serving as the principal, co-principal investigator, or methodologist on various multi-year, interdisciplinary research studies and technical assistance projects conducted in partnership with local and state educational agencies and community-based organizations.

Participating in collaborative, interdisciplinary research studies, including collecting qualitative data; developing, and conducting qualitative and mixed methods analyses; report and manuscript writing; and overseeing and directing professional research assistants.

Mentoring and supervising undergraduate and graduate students. Supporting training, technical assistance, engagement, and grant seeking activities within The Village.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a demonstrated record of achievement in the following areas:

  • PhD or EdD in education or related field of study (e.g., education, psychology, education research methods and statistics) from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated professional expertise and experiences with qualitative and/or mixed methods research is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in multiple qualitative methodologies (e.g., case studies, phenomenology, ethnography, content analysis); approaches to data collection (e.g., in-depth interviews, focus groups, observations, questionnaires, visual data collection methods) and research software and tools.
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in multiple quantitative methodologies (e.g., singe-case and group-design studies; causal designs; multi-level designs); approaches to primary and secondary data collection and research software and tools.
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in developing and using data management, data coding, and data analyses systems and software (e.g., FileMaker, RedCap, NVivo, SPSS, R, Photo Voice, video elicitation, Qualtrics).
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead qualitative research projects independently and collaboratively, including training and supervision of staff, data collection, management, and analyses, and dissemination of findings through publications and presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience on a research team within a university-based setting, including data collection, management, and analyses; IRB submission and compliance; dissemination of research results through publications, presentations, and other media to both academic and non-academic audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition, the following experiences and expertise are preferred:

  • Experience with implementation science research, intervention research, and/or reading, language, and literacy research.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and/or sustaining research-practice partnerships between a university and a community partner.
  • Experience developing and/or using innovative programming and communication approaches to disseminate research evidence to academic and non-academic audiences.
  • Experience providing reading, language, and literacy instruction to students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grades (e.g., classroom teacher, special education teacher, speech language pathologist, reading interventionist, reading specialist, reading coach).
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively to accomplish assigned tasks and deliverables on time with minimal error and minimal supervision.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite of collaboration tools, including SharePoint and Teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Anticipated Salary Range

$60,000 to $80,000 annually, commensurate with education, experience, and the level of the position.

Considerations

This is a Faculty position.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.

The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This is not a remote position. Candidates should expect to be physically in the office and available during standard business hours through email, TEAMS, ZOOM, and phone. This position is based in Tallahassee at the Florida Center for Reading Research and is eligible for a hybrid work schedule up to 2 days per week; however, telecommuting arrangements may be modified to support projects and/or work productivity.

Candidates should also expect to work on some evenings and weekends and to travel within the region, only as needed, to support projects and activities.
