Radiation and Laser Safety Consultant

Antea USA, Inc. (Antea®Group) is looking to hire a Radiation and Laser Safety Consultant in the San Fransico Bay area.

As a Radiation and Laser Safety Consultant, you will be located at one of our technology client's facility on a daily basis, and work with their global EHS Management team to build and implement non-ionizing radiation and laser safety programs. This position is a full-time role that will be embedded with our client. This position is immediately available and is a long-term contract position. Relocation assistance available for the ideal candidate.

Typical job assignments may include but are not limited to:

• Representing a team environment with collaborative skills and professional behavior to foster positive EHS culture.
• Developing, writing, and implementation of health and safety non-ionizing radiation and laser safety programs and procedures.
• Identify and recommend controls for non-beam hazards, including laser-generated air contaminants.
• Assist hardware teams and EHS safety leads in inspecting facilities for sealed source device, X-ray, non-ionizing radiation and laser safety compliance.
• Analyze safety hazards, assist in creating requirement specifications for hardware potentially hazardous elements such as Lasers, LEDs, CT machines and other types of non-ionizing radiation devices.
• Support FDA laser reporting including import/export, initial and model change reports and annual reporting.
• Assist in in developing corrective actions and communicating to stake holders.
• Assist in developing methods for safety analysis using in-house equipment which reduce cost and improve turnaround time of testing and investigation.
• Adaptation and innovation when working with staff to help them establish procedures to ensure compliance with requirements specified by Radiation and Laser Safety programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in occupational health, industrial hygiene, physics, optical sciences or engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the laser safety practice area, conducting assessments, developing appropriate safety programs, or developing and implementing non-ionizing radiation and laser safety management systems.
• Experience in safety work associated with laser and LEDs; experience with IEC 60825, IEC 62471 and ANSI Z136.1 compliance.
• Firm understanding of and ability to perform laser calculations (MPE, NOHD, NHZ) for various laser types and configurations.
• Experience with FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis.
• Exemplary organizational, written and verbal communication skills, a must.
• Ability to work independently, with an attention to details.
• Must be proficient with multiple technological platforms.
• Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship, now or in the future.
• Compliance with any client requirements, including but not limited to COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
• Potential employees must be able to satisfactorily complete a background check, pre-employment drug screening (as permitted by law), and baseline physical (safety sensitive roles). They must also have a valid driver's license and good driving record.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment - Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:

• Sedentary to light work (typical office or administrative work)
• Frequently required to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time
• Occasional lifting and carrying of low (under 25lbs) to moderate (25-49lbs) weight objects
• Repetitive motions: substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers (including reaching)
• Subject to inside environmental conditions (protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature change)
• Operation of a motor vehicle

Additionally, if you are assigned work in the field at client project sites you will need to complete a medical surveillance/fitness-for-duty examination and maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:

• Medium to heavy work
• Subject to outside environmental conditions: heat/cold, wind, wet and/or humid, etc.
• Occasional stooping (bending body downward and forward), kneeling (bending legs at knee), crouching (bending body downward and forward) and climbing
• Frequent lifting (including push/pull, hold/carry) of light, moderate and possibly heavy weight objects
• Subject to hazards, including a variety of physical conditions, including but not limited to: proximity to moving vehicles, parts or equipment; exposure to chemicals; pressure (including noise); electrical hazards; biological hazards; excavation/trenching; confined spaces; elevated work; materials handling
• May be required to wear an air purifying respirator

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The annual salary range for this position is $115,000 - $130,000. Compensation will vary depending on the applicant's job-related knowledge and skills, education, and work experience.
