POSITION:
The Production Lead works directly with the Production Supervisor in providing leadership and supervisory coordination continuity in all aspects of the cheese production operations. The person's role is to assist in maintaining a high level of productivity and continuous improvements with assigned shifts in the area safety, reliability, cost savings, team building, and personal management. As with all positions at Prairie Farms to include all food safety and quality requirements.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

The Production Lead is responsible for the overall performance of the days as it pertains to labor management, production, scheduling, cheese yield and system flow, while focusing on safety, quality, cost and employee environment. Experience with all aspects of food safety, packaging and inventory control is a major factor in orchestrating the duties of this position. Duties include actively promoting and supporting safety and product quality program(i.e. GMP'S, HACCP, preventative controls, quality, food defense, and sanitation standards) and initiative working closely with Supervisor, QA and team members.

SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITES:

• Manage and provide strong leadership, direction, support and development to your shift.
• Ensure optimum and efficient production schedule.
• Directs the overall activities of the team to ensure all needs are met each day.
• Leads trouble-shoots and problems-solving efforts through the facilitation of team meetings and on-the-floor leadership to effectively change systems and production through the process of continuous improvements.
• Monitors, oversees and improves the safety and quality of the finished product and environment by maintaining the equipment and facility in a sanitary condition to meet regulatory, customer and company standards, through working closely with plant sanitation and quality assurance.
• Maintains a positive employee environment through consistent/fair practices and leadership in the areas such as employee development, safety, and training.
• Measures/focuses on productivity, controlling waste, and labor efficiencies. Identifies equipment downtime and machine problems and works with the maintenance team to resolve issues to inefficiencies.
• Promotes and supports the plant's safety program and policies to insure a safe, hazard-free working environment for all employees, through floor leadership and in active role in the plant's safety team.
• Maintains adheres to and administers company policies and procedures in the area of human resources, food safety and quality assurance.
• Able to take direction and willing to work according to the instructions that are given by line leads or supervisors. Must be flexible enough to embrace change and ask questions when needed.
• Must have strong upper body strength for some aspects of cheese production.
• Actively develop problem solving skills and initiative to consider and implement adjustments based on experience and sound judgement.
• Must be a team player and able to work well with others but also able to work independently and productively with a timely outcome. Be persistent and hardworking while maintaining a positive attitude and environment.
• Embrace and support the plant's safety program and policies to insure a safe, hazard-free working environment for all employees.
• Adhere to company policies and legal guidelines and procedure in the areas of the overall packaging and production department, human resources, food safety and quality assurance.
• Help maintain a safe and orderly environment of the facility.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be in good physical condition: able to bend, lift, twist, move, stand and/or walk through entire shift. Must be able to perform repetitive tasks that often involve dexterity, using the wrist, arms, or hands.
• Must be able to life 50 lbs. or more at a time.
• Must be punctual and reliable.
• High school diploma is preferred.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Must be able to read and write in English.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Due to the product, the Cheese Factory environment on average is 70 degrees or higher.
• Smocks, aprons, gloves, hairnets, over the shoe boots and protective gear are provided.
• Dress code is casual, dress in layers. Strong durable athletic shoes or work boots preferred. No open shoes, shorts, crop pants or torn jeans of any kind permitted.
• No earrings, rings, bracelets or face jewelry of any kind.
• No cell phones allowed on the floor at any time.
• Shall have attended Chemical Safety Training sessions within the past 12 months.
• Shall have attended GMP,FSMA,Food Defense Awareness, and Allergen Training.
• Shall meet all requirements of the SQF Program.
• Shall comply with all requirements for Personal Protective Equipment as defined by appropriate plant procedures.
• Shall comply with all Safety Rules and Policies.
