The Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign has an opening for a Post Award Specialist.

Job Summary
The Post Award Specialist will provide support for sponsored research post-award activities for the Beckman Institute. This position will work with stakeholders on budgeting, financial accounting, and reporting on sponsored programs. Must maintain familiarity with federal and University guidelines to effectively administer awards from federal and private sponsors. This position reports to the Associate Director for Business Operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and reconcile monthly grant accounting reports for researchers and management. Ensure the accuracy of various types of expenditures and procurement procedures for all grant funding using professional accountancy knowledge.
  • Review and approve the use of grant funds for expenses such as employee appointments, i-Buy orders, Chrome River expenses, and travel reimbursements.
  • Review and process sub-award payments on research projects.
  • Review progress reports and monitor faculty effort to ensure compliance with policies and make recommendations for changes when necessary.
  • Consult with SPA Post Award staff for required documentation, reporting, and close-out activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of sponsor rules and regulations for grant expenditures, allowable/unallowable costs, re-budgeting, carryforward, etc.
  • Maintain knowledge of SPA guidelines for all post-award activities.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of internal forms and templates related to post-award management.
  • Participate in continuing professional development (e.g. conferences, seminars, webinars, etc.) to improve knowledge and judgment.
Specialty Factors

Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics or a field related to the position. Experience in a business, academic, research or government environment.

Preferred Qualifications

UIUC Certified Sponsored Research Administrator. Minimum of two years' experience working in a university research environment; experience in sponsored research administration; familiarity with University of Illinois policies and systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Exceptional customer service skills including strong written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Ability to work as part of a fast-paced team.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products, especially MS Excel.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5040B - Grants and Contracts Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after May 20, 2024. The salary range for this position is $60,000-$65,000 per year. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position. This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment.
