Other Information

The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (MagLab) in Tallahassee, FL, seeks the next Research faculty III/Director of its Magnet Science and Technology (MS&T) Division. MS&T's primary mission is to ensure that the MagLab provides users with world-leading magnetic fields. The MagLab presently has the highest fields worldwide for several classes of magnets: non-destructive pulse - 100 T, 1-second duration pulse - 60 T, resistive/superconducting hybrid - 45 T, DC resistive - 41 T, condensed-matter NMR - 36 T, superconducting - 32 T, neutron scattering - 26 T, and MRI - 21T. MS&T operates jointly with the MagLab's Applied Superconductivity Center to develop and build next-generation superconducting magnets and with the MagLab's Pulsed Field Facility (located at Los Alamos National Laboratory) to build next-generation resistive pulsed magnets. MS&T is also responsible for maintaining and upgrading the magnets operated by the MagLab DC Field Facility.

The MS&T division includes thirty-five permanent employees, including materials scientists, engineers, technicians, and administrative personnel. MS&T has many magnet development capabilities, including materials development and characterization, conceptual design, electro-thermal-mechanical computation, mechanical design, fabrication, and testing.
