This position is within FSU's Department of Information Technology Administration Partnership Program (ITAPP) and serves as Information Technology Manager for the FSU Police Department.

The Florida State University Police Department's mission is to support Florida State University by promoting a safe and secure higher education environment while providing proactive police and customer-related services aimed at reducing crime. ITAPP partnerships are unique to the unit it supports, and our team of professionals develops a customized technology management plan that aligns with the unit's overall strategic direction. By understanding each unit's distinct needs, the partnership focuses on what the unit can address internally and how Information Technology Services (ITS) can assist in providing consistent support. The unit maintains ownership of their IT resources and collaborates with ITS to manage their IT environment.

Responsibilities

Responsible for overall direction, planning, system implementation and staffing. Manager of the department's computing facilities, computing systems, databases, software, mobile systems, web services, and other emergency dispatch and/or records management applications. Daily public contact with students, faculty, staff, and law enforcement personnel. Reports to the Chief of Police and ITS.

Liaison to Information Technology Services. Position is expected to leverage existing IT systems and services that are managed by ITS such as virtualization technologies, Active Directory, SharePoint, Web CMS, network management, e-mail, and file storage. Will collaborate with ITS Computing Technology Services to develop workstation support processes and procedures.

Supports a mission's critical computer aided dispatch (CAD) system which requires additional training and FDLE certification during first six months of employment. Provide limited support for a hosted compliance tracking solution.

Point of contact and advisor to other IT Systems administrators working within FSU. Requires close work with systems administrators from other law enforcement agencies. Create reports and work with ITS to assess the IT needs of the department to track progress and demonstrate the value of the ITAPP partnership. In collaboration with the Police Chief, determines/documents policies and procedures and oversees the implementation and enforcement of policies and procedures.

Consults with the Chief of Police on strategic planning and determining budgeting needs of the IT department. Provides advice, recommendations, and researches, evaluates, and selects IT equipment and services. Provides consulting assistance to units within the agency. FSUPD operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Occasional on-call support is required during nights, weekends, sports events, and special events that require law enforcement personnel. Assists the department with the inventory tracking of IT equipment. Maintains access to confidential information. Interprets connectivity, security, and accessibility procedures of external law enforcement agencies regarding FSU Police Department gaining access to their systems. Coordinates dissemination of IT security information within the department.

Provides support to Campus Access & Security Services (CASS) Desktop, laptop and server systems as needed to ensure system security and reliability. Provides support for FSU Emergency Management Systems (EMS) workstation and servers as needed to ensure system security and reliability. Provides onsite support of systems during emergencies.

Serves at the police department's Local Agency Security Officer (LASO), responsible for ensuring FSUPD is compliant with FDLE regulations and adheres to CJIS Policies and procedures.

Performs duties in compliance with ITS policies, guidelines, and processes pertaining to support requests, work orders, project management, change management, and incident management. Appropriately utilizes associated tools in accordance with ITS standards.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and four years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and eight years of experience. (Note: appropriate post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
  • Valid Florida or Georgia Driver's License or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
  • Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Training and FDLE Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Certification is required within six months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a law enforcement or in a military police/law enforcement environment.

Who is an ideal candidate for this position?
Prior Law enforcement experience in either a Civilian or Military organization. Experience with supporting server systems such as the New World Records Management and Computer Aided Dispatch system, FDLE/Florida Criminal Justice Information System network administration, web services, and unique emergency dispatch applications

What is a typical day in this position?
Supports law enforcement at all levels within the department, leads and manages FSUPD IT Staff by setting priorities. Provides support for servers and installed software.

What can I expect in the first 60 - 90 days?
Training on current systems, CJIS qualifications, integrating with other IT managers within ITAPP, and documenting FSUPD IT needs. Familiarizing yourself with all of the FSUPD staff.
