Job Summary / Basic Function:

JOB SUMMARY:
The Instructor for Utility Line is responsible for but not limited to the instruction of classes pertaining to the Utility Line program in the Technology Department such as Electrical Theory, Power Distribution, Climbing Skills, Commercial Driver's License Driving Skills and other topics related to the discipline. Additional duties include advising, tutoring, student counseling, recruiting, and working with advisory committees. This individual is also responsible for maintaining office hours and teaching classes as scheduled by the department, including hybrid/online courses, as required, both on campus and at alternate locations. This individual attends workshops, seminars, and conferences to upgrade teaching skills and assists in the developing curriculum, as needed. All LIT faculty are responsible for recruitment and retention as a part of achieving the Institute's Shared Vision of Growth and Excellence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively engage students in the learning process
  • Maintain ethical and professional behavior
  • Maintain knowledge of an adherence to the policies and procedures contained in the TSUS and LIT Policies and Procedures Manual
  • Maintain office hours
  • Teach day and/or evening classes and labs during the fall, spring, and summer semesters as required by the department
  • Help coordinate and attend advisory committee meetings
  • Attend Teaching and Learning Center to upgrade teaching skills
  • Assist in the development of curriculum as needed
  • Willing to develop skills necessary to teach on-line courses
  • Responsible for maintaining and setting up equipment related to the Utility Line Program
  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; frequently work in outdoor weather conditions; and frequently move items and equipment typically found in a law enforcement environment, up to 50 lbs.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine.Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Education Required:

  • A certificate or higher degree in Utility Line or related field from a regionally accredited institution is required. (Please submit official transcripts with application)

Minimum Experience Required:
  • Must be experienced in all aspects of Utility Line.
  • Minimum of 5 years of full time experience in the Utility Line field is required.
  • Possess an up to date and clean CDL license.
  • A working knowledge in Microsoft Office Applications is required.
Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A working knowledge in using Blackboard Learning Management System.
  • Applicants with at least one year teaching experience at high school level and/or post-secondary education in Utility Line Technology is preferred.
Salary:

Commensurate
