Where will you work: Onsite - North Pasture, with site responsibilities at Four Corners, Wingate and South Fort Meade Mines.

The Geotechnical Operations Specialist is responsible for providing design support for stormwater management, waste clay disposal and portions of the mine infrastructure. This role provides technical support functions to Operations, Permitting, Environmental, Reclamation and Engineering teams. This role is responsible for coordination of design, construction, and closure activities pertaining to civil infrastructure within the mine and will provide support and oversight to maintenance activities, inspections, and compliance.

What will you be working on?

  • Provide technical support to our Florida Mining Operations including coordination of stormwater control system design in accordance with Federal, State and County permits and requirements.
  • Establish design criteria, coordination of design related activities to support design of civil infrastructure from concept through closure.
  • Evaluate compliance of design, construction, and operation.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining short-term and long-term plans in support of operational decisions and capital planning. Support clay balance and water management strategy functions.
  • Coordinate geotechnical inspections, surveys, and monitoring programs to track progress on civil infrastructure. Report issues, coordinate recommendations, and track implementation of corrective actions.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and implementing operational management system elements for clay settling areas and water management systems.
  • Support design and construction activities for mine expansion and closure projects. Responsible for completing project tasks as assigned on a project-by-project basis.

What is required for this role?
  • Bachelor's degree, in a scientific field or related field.
  • 3+ years of related experience in industrial operation or heavy construction experience with exposure to environmental and safety compliance and stormwater management elements.
  • Project management experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering design drawings.
  • Ability to interface with all levels of management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must demonstrate ability to influence.
  • Strong leadership qualities.
  • Personal integrity, teamwork skills and communication skills are critical to this position.
  • Travel required 20-30% to multiple FL Locations

Bonus if you have the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of phosphate mining process to include water management, clay settling areas, stormwater best management practices, engineering design processes, etc.
  • Master's Degree
