Fresh GM FSQA Manager
Job Summary:
The Fresh GM FSQA Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) program within a poultry processing plant. This role ensures the plant adheres to all regulatory requirements, including those set forth by the USDA, while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare, food safety, and product quality.
Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive FSQA programs:
    • Establish and enforce FSQA procedures encompassing all aspects of the poultry processing operation, from live receiving to finished product storage and distribution.
    • Develop and maintain Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) plans.
    • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Establish, maintain, and enforce comprehensive GMP and SOPs for all stages of poultry processing, ensuring consistent product quality and adherence to regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including those established by the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
  • Manage and oversee FSQA staff:
    • Lead, direct, and oversee the FSQA department, including developing, implementing, and maintaining effective quality and food safety programs.
    • Build and maintain a positive and productive work environment for the FSQA team.
    • Recruit, train, and develop FSQA personnel to ensure they possess the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
    • Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
    • Investigate and address any deviations from established procedures or regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies:
    • Maintain a deep understanding of all relevant federal, state, and local food safety regulations, including USDA FSIS regulations.
    • Manage the relationship with USDA FSIS inspection personnel, ensuring open communication and timely resolution of any concerns.
    • Conduct internal audits to assess program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
    • Develop and implement corrective action plans to address non-conformances and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Animal welfare oversight:
    • Implement and monitor animal handling procedures to ensure humane treatment throughout the processing operation.
    • Collaborate with animal welfare specialists and veterinarians to ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations and best practices.
  • Data analysis and reporting:
    • Collect, analyze, and report on FSQA data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
    • Prepare and maintain FSQA documentation for internal and external use.
Qualifications:
  • Preferred bachelor's degree in food science, Animal Science, Poultry Science, or a related field. Experience can/may be substituted educational requirements.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a food processing environment, preferably poultry, with a proven track record of success in managing and leading FSQA programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of animal welfare principles and best practices in poultry processing.
  • Strong understanding of USDA FSIS regulations, HACCP principles, and GMP/SOPs.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Additional Requirements:
  • Experience working with USDA FSIS inspection personnel is a plus.
  • Experience in animal welfare oversight is a plus.
