Michigan International Speedway has more than 12 campground and is the state of Michigan's largest registered campground. In addition to two great weekends of racing, the speedway is home to events throughout the year including the MIS Backyard Hockey Tournament, Faster Horses Festival and Nite Lites.

NASCAR and Michigan International Speedway seeks a talented professional to join in the position of a General Maintenance Technician.

Summary

This position is responsible for the routine preventative maintenance, repairs and building services duties; with an emphasis on performing interior and exterior painting needs and drywall repairs. To help with the overall operations of Michigan International Speedway, having the ability to operate and help perform maintenance needs on a variety of equipment is expected. Basic office systems knowledge including but not limited to computer systems and programs, and cellular phone is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with fleet management and inventory.
  • Tests repaired equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Ability to operate many different pieces of equipment including mowers, hand-tools, vehicles, lifts, and other heavy machinery.
  • Requisitions parts and equipment with Supervisors approval.
  • Keeps records and reports.
  • Provides general housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe facility.
  • Participate in interior/exterior painting and repair work throughout the facility.
  • Layout and paint parking lots/display areas/camping areas
  • Paints and touches up racetrack walls and logos.
  • Assist with routine plumbing repairs such as unstopping toilets, sinks or urinals, fixing water leaks, and leaking faucets. Including winterizing and pressurizing restroom/concession areas.
  • Help other employees with routine electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs or fluorescent lamps and assists in repairing ballast and light fixtures.
  • Assemble and move furniture, hang pictures.
  • Set up and tear down chairs, tables and equipment when used.
  • Performs preventive building maintenance duties and functions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot plumbing, electrical, and HVAC system issues to determine necessary repairs.
  • Employee will be responsible for grounds and track preparation, maintenance, and restoration.
  • Track cleaning (sweeping, blowing, applying, and picking up absorbent, washing/scrubbing fluids off of the track, etc.).
  • Assist other full-time employees with their duties. As well as serving as a team lead to seasonal and event staff as assigned.
  • Installing and storing signage throughout the property.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Hours will vary but will include all hours of operation, evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary to work events and to fulfill job responsibilities. Acceptance of work hours customary in the field of sport/entertainment is necessary.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Ability to perform quality work within deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Interact professionally with other employees, customers, and vendors.
  • Fulfill responsibilities in accordance with company policies and standards.
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Physical Demands:

Regularly required to stand and walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally required to sit, and taste or smell. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, vibration and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee would occasionally work in high, precarious places or be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electric shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud but can be very loud at times.
