This position is for a senior level project lead and subject matter expert engineer to serve in E24 Aircraft Carrier Machinery. This position will lead a cross-functional NNS Team through the design, development, testing and full implementation of AWE schedule risk reduction / cost savings initiatives on CVN 79, CVN 80, CVN 81 and future aircraft carrier platforms.
This position will involve daily interface with NNS Engineering departments and the CVN 80 AWE PM, while being embedded with a dedicated CVN 80 AWE Tiger Team comprised of NNS Project, NNS Construction, NNS Trades and NNS Planning POCs. Major role will involve providing project leadership and management of multiple concurrent AWE schedule risk reduction / cost savings initiatives occurring on multiple ship contracts. Applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to coordinate and execute successful projects with only minimal oversight from NNS upper management.
Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.
Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
- Experience with AWE history, design, analysis, testing, vendors, installation and POCs up and down the value stream is beneficial.
- Detailed knowledge of component fabrication processes, machinery system ship integration methods, deck plate experience and X43 Machinery Installation processes.
- History of resolving complex problems with limited supervision while successfully communicating with all levels of NAVSEA, SUPSHIP NN, HII-NNS management and all external customers.
- A demonstrated ability to foster cross-functional coordination in the successful implementation of complex and schedule-challenged design initiatives is also a necessity.
