National Coatings & Suppiles, Inc. is looking for an experienced Director of Environmental, Health and Safety to join our team in Raleigh NC. They will be responsible for the direction, development, and implementation of all environmental, health & safety (EHS) management system related compliance programs, including hazardous waste management, environmental regulatory compliance for federal and state, industrial hygiene issues, training, accident prevention and awareness, safety committee development, ISO and OSHA compliance, DOT Compliance and plant safety award and recognition program. Responsibility includes retail stores, Distribution Centers, offices, fleet assets and satellite locations in the North America region. Multi-unit experience and fleet management experience is preferred.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Execute the Company's EHS Policy and Environmental Policy by establishing a Health and Safety management system which includes monitoring, recording, educating, and sharing EHS and KPI data and processes
  • Organize, develop, and lead the Corporate Workplace Health & Safety Committee
  • Manage and implement EHS plans, programs, and initiatives to meet regulatory requirements and EHS needs
  • Develop a comprehensive safety audit system for all departments and make recommendations to correct or eliminate hazards according to the company's corporate social responsibility objectives
  • Ensure incident investigations are effective in the identification of root cause and corrective and preventative actions are implemented in a timely manner
  • Conducts trends analysis and reporting of results against key EHS metrics to drive the reduction in injury & illness rates
  • Develop, set-up, and educate employees on their EHS responsibility, promoting safety consciousness, and provide the knowledge to safely perform their duties
  • Act as a resource to staff and employees as a Health, Safety and Environment subject matter expert
  • Establish EHS programs to comply with changes in law that will affect employees or plant operations
  • Establish annual Safety audits for the manufacturing and office sites. Report findings and correct deficiencies
  • Compile and maintain current chemical inventory and safety data sheets, reports, and related information
  • Management of hazardous waste disposal program including maintaining manifests and documentation required to be in compliance with all relevant local and regional laws
  • Investigate and incorporate waste minimization procedures to reduce hazardous waste disposal as they apply to ISO and EPA standards
  • Maintain compliance with air and wastewater permit requirements for all relevant local and regional regulations
  • Oversee all vehicles (commercial, light duty, personal passenger), drivers, and related assets, including safe operation, maintenance and condition, development and implementation of regulatory and company policy
  • Special projects as assigned
Qualifications:

  • Education or training associated with a BS in Safety Management, Industrial Safety, or Environmental Regulation
  • Knowledgeable in ISO, OSHA, DOT and EPA regulations
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in providing training and guidance to employees in the development of environmental, health and safety programs
  • Ability to communicate and interface with all departments and levels of management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated project & time management skills
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing a similar function
  • Proficient in all Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Must be able to travel overnight as needed and travel/commute to and from field sites
  • Ability to communicate verbally, read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
Preferred Skills

  • Lean and/or Six Sigma certification a plus
  • Analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, matrix organization
  • Certification in one or more EHS related disciplines (CSP, CIH, CHMM, etc.) a plus
