Position Overview:
The Control Systems Engineer (CSE) provides technical support to ensure reliable operations of control systems at Motiva's Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex (PAMC). The CSE ensures that control systems performance meets customer and Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) requirements, and that system design meets corporate and industry guidelines.

Responsibilities:
- Monitor and control system performance trends and develop plans to improve equipment reliability in production areas
- Act as Control Systems (CS) focal point, providing or coordinating technical assurance of CS for assigned area of responsibility
- Support maintenance and inspectors in analyzing complex problems escalated by the maintenance work process
- Provide guidance on CS maintenance effectiveness to help continuously improve correct scope definition and quality of execution
- Ensure full compliance with HSSE and technical standards / procedures for new and changes to automation and control designs
- Review performance of control systems designed to mitigate risks identified from risk management studies (Process Hazards Analysis, PHA)
- Act as Technical Assurance Coordinator (TAC) for Management of Change (MOC) associated with Control Systems
- Coordinate updates of Process Safety Management (PSM) documentation as necessary (SIS documentation)
- Lead or participate in technical and safety reviews (e.g. PHA) to ensure HSSE compliance and technical integrity in design
- Participate and lead CS incident investigations to evaluate root causes and propose design or work process improvements
- Develop Opportunity Proposals and concept designs for additions or modifications to control systems
- Develop or review operating procedures for plant control systems equipment as required
- Provide timely input to Turnaround (T/A) planning, documents, scope of work and plans for execution. Provide active support during T/A shutdown, execution and start up activities
- Act as focal point to ensure proper operational awareness and technical assurance from Project Engineering and other technical groups working in assigned production area
- Ensure control systems comply with applicable corporate, safety and environmental standards (Motiva standards, industry standards, State and Federal regulations, etc.)
- Confirm instrument equipment is installed in accordance with Motiva standards, industry standards and National Electric Code
- Serve in CS duty roster as scheduled
- Participate in Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) analysis and help to establish alarms and limits for equipment through Ensure Safe Production work process
- Proactively identify improvement opportunities via technical monitoring processes in alignment with HSSE, reliability and cost improvement goals to develop and implement solutions to CS problems outside of normal maintenance work process
- Assess and identify training needs for new control equipment
Experience and Qualifications;Basic Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree or higher education in Engineering
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-3+ years of related controls & instrumentation experience or internship experience
- Skilled in base layer control and instrumentation (HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Distributed Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, etc.)
- Knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems
- Skilled in control algorithm implementation for Honeywell LCN & Experion PKS DCS platforms, PLC applications and miscellaneous control hardware
- Experience with Delta V DCS and SIS
- Knowledge of Triconex Safety Systems
- Knowledge of Bently-Nevada Systems
- Knowledge of Advanced Control Algorithms (DMC, Advanced Level Control, etc.)
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards
Physical Requirements:
- Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including occasional climbing of stairs and ladders
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots, and hearing protection)
Other Requirements:
- Must have legal authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the requirement of a work visa
- Must currently hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
