Position Summary:

The School of Medicine of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an accomplished and energetic leader to serve as Chair for the Department of Dermatology.

The Department of Dermatology provides care to patients of all ages. As a tertiary care referral center, faculty physicians have medical expertise in general adult dermatology, pediatric dermatology, cutaneous oncology, and auto-immune skin diseases, with treatments including phototherapy, laser, and Mohs micrographic surgery. The Clinical services are provided at three sites with projected visits of 60,000 per year. The Department also provides inpatient consultation at UNC Hospitals. Our vision is to advance our missions of patient care, teaching and research through ongoing innovation and service in a supportive, caring environment for patients, staff, physicians, and all members of our health care team.

The Department of Dermatology teaches and trains students, residents, and fellows with a rigorous curriculum that prepares the highly skilled dermatologists of the future, including a commitment to train a work force that reflects the people we serve. The Department's residency program is a nationally accredited, three-year program, that matches six residents per year. The Department also offers fellowships in pediatric and procedural dermatology, with a new fellowship in dermatopathology in the planning stages.

The UNC School of Medicine is ranked #5 nationally in NIH funding among public universities. The Department of Dermatology has basic science and clinical research programs with several NIH-funded investigators, with special expertise in autoimmunity, epidermal cell biology, vascular anomalies and skin cancers. The department averages $2.5M in grants and contracts annually. The Department also has a clinical trials unit.

The selected individual will lead a diverse group of faculty, trainees, and staff members and will oversee all aspects of the Department, including clinical practice, education, research, and fiscal management consistent with the strategic planning of the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Hospitals/UNC Health. UNC is a collaborative environment and chairs meet weekly to advance the shared mission of the UNC School of Medicine.

This recruitment is Open Track/Open Rank and the appropriate track and rank will be determined once the top candidate is selected. In addition to a primary faculty appointment in the Department of Dermatology, the selected candidate will hold a secondary EHRA Non-Faculty administrative appointment as Department Chair.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum qualifications include an M.D./D.O. degree, board certification, eligibility for a North Carolina license, and ability to obtain clinical privileges at UNC.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

A formal leadership role in an academic medical department, a strong commitment to clinical excellence, a distinguished record of research accomplishments, experience in education and training healthcare professionals from all backgrounds, and a clear demonstration of the qualities needed to lead and manage a multifaceted academic department will enhance the candidate's application. Board certification in dermatology is preferred.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
