The Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics (ACE) seeks to fill a tenured research/teaching position for an Associate or Full Professor in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics. Applicants currently at the Assistant Professor level and close to tenure will be considered. All applicants should have a demonstrated record of research excellence in the field of environmental and natural resource economics, including but not limited to the economics of climate change, energy, emissions reduction, carbon sequestration, water use, water quality, habitat conservation, environmental regulation, environment and international development, non-market valuation and policy design. The successful candidate's research program would be expected to advance knowledge using any quantitative methods and demonstrate experience with interdisciplinary collaborations that inform management and policy decisions at regional, national or global levels. Teaching responsibilities would generally include two courses per year, at the undergraduate or graduate level, and an expectation of providing leadership to the undergraduate concentration in Environmental Economics & Policy and graduate student supervision.

Responsibilities: The person filling this position will be expected to: (1) develop or maintain (depending on rank) a nationally-prominent research program with publications in leading peer-reviewed scholarly journals, (2) contribute to the Department's undergraduate and graduate teaching programs through teaching (generally two courses per year) and through graduate student supervision and mentoring, curriculum design and developing experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate students, (3) communicate research results to relevant policymakers and stakeholders, (4) provide academic leadership through service to department and college, including the undergraduate program. (5) seek external funding to support research efforts and (6) actively contribute to achieving excellence through diversity and inclusion.

ACE and UIUC provide a rich collaborative research environment in the study of environmental and natural resource economics with the presence of research centers such as the Center for the Economics of Sustainability (CEOS) and the Center for Climate, Regional, Environmental And Trade Economics (CREATE) in ACE, the Institute for Sustainability, Energy and Environment (ISEE), the Center for Digital Agriculture (CDA), and the Center for Social and Behavioral Sciences (CSBS). The campus offers many opportunities for engagement with faculty from other departments in the College and Campus, with stakeholders and policymakers through the department and College extension efforts, and with scholars in the field through the annual Heartland Environmental and Resource Economics Department. It also offers access to world-class computational resources through the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA).

Qualifications : All candidates must have a Ph.D. in agricultural/applied economics, economics, or related field. Candidates to be hired at the Associate Professor levels must have a record showing real promise of becoming a leader in research, teaching, and service, with a high demonstrated likelihood of sustaining contributions to the field and the department. Candidates at the Professor level must have an outstanding record of research, teaching and service and achieved national prominence in the field. Associate or Full Professor candidates will be preferred if they have experience coordinating research programs, interacting effectively with the public on policy issues, attracting competitive federal funding and supervising and mentoring students.

Salary and Appointment : Competitive, based on qualifications and rank, 9-month academic year, tenured position, 50% research, 40% teaching, 10% academic leadership

Start Date : The anticipated starting date for the position is August 16, 2024.
