Associate/Assistant Director of Housing Operations

Job Description
Sarah Lawrence College is seeking a full-time, live-in Associate/Assistant Director (AD) of Housing Operations to work within the Office of Residential Life. The AD of Housing Operations oversees a staff of one RF and 0-2 student workers. The AD of Housing Operations is dedicated to ensuring a high-quality and positive experience that is conducive to students’ holistic success, personal development, and well-being and helpful in engendering a positive living community. The work of the AD supports the collaborative approach to accomplishing these goals within the broader department of Student Life. The AD of Housing Operations will report to the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Student Life. The position comes with a one-bedroom apartment within a student residence hall and funding for professional development opportunities. 

Essential Duties Summary
Essential Functions

  • Manage all aspects of the housing process, including applications, selection, assignments, and waitlists, for both the annual and off-cycle housing processes.
    • Communicate and coordinate with other campus departments regarding relevant housing procedures.
    • Maintain and disseminate housing resources and information, including during College breaks. 
  • Partner with the Assistant Directors of Residential Education and Community Standards to directly oversee the daily operation and strategic planning and implementation of the Office of Residential Life in the area of housing operations.
  • Manage all aspects of the room change process, including the request form, request submissions and responses, and key and access logistics.
  • Manage all aspects of the move-in and check-in processes for both fall and spring semesters, including off-cycle move-ins.
    • Coordinate with other departments to plan communications and processes related to the opening and closing of the College, including move-in eligibility, no-show confirmations, and student check-in.
  • Manage all aspects of the move-out and check-out processes for both fall and spring semesters, including off-cycle move-outs.
  • Manage the various inspections that take place throughout the year, including Health & Safety, state fire safety, and closing inspections.
  • Oversee Overnight Guest Registration process, form, and form submissions.
  • Oversee response process to inquiries sent to the Residential Life email inbox regarding housing operations.
  • Supervise the RF of Housing Operations and 0-2 student workers.
  • Engage and participate in campus life and build connections with Sarah Lawrence students.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain housing data and records of residential spaces and changes made within THD (housing software), Jenzabar (student information record system), and Google Drive.
  • Provide regular census information regarding the number of residential students on campus.
  • Serve on the Committee of Student Life and oversee the Committee on Student Life Housing Subcommittee.
  • Coordinate and oversee the development of content for websites, social media accounts, email accounts, and MySLC (student website) pages and forms.
  • Attend relevant conferences to learn and apply best practices and oversee execution of benchmarking with other campuses.
  • Provide training to student leaders relating to housing operations.
  • Coordinate logistics of key management and swipe card access with Campus Operations.
  • Partner with the Title IX office on Title IX housing accommodations.
  • Serve in a primary on-call rotation alongside the other Assistant Directors and RFs during evenings and weekends to support the safety and well-being of students in any elevated incidental circumstances. Serves on-call for about three cumulative weeks per semester.
  • Serve as a hearing officer for incidents reported on campus that violate the College’s Community Standards.

Skills and Abilities

  • Computer and database literacy and ability to effectively utilize technology.
 Education and Experience
  • 1-2 years of experience working within Residential Life or a similar field.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Master’s degree in Higher Education or related field preferred
