Assistant Director, Employer Engagement - Engineering Administration

Job Summary
The Assistant Director for Employer Engagement plans and executes initiatives that align with the Engineering Career Services' strategic priorities relating to employer engagement and professional connections. The primary function for this position is to foster relationships with external stakeholders and campus partners who provide experiential learning opportunities and/or recruit students for jobs and internships. In addition, this role is charged with leading all aspects of career fairs, corporate partners program, employer strategies, and other career related events critical to expanding networking, employment opportunities, and career development programming for students in The Grainger College of Engineering. This position reports to the Director, Engineering Career Services, who reports to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Employer Engagement

  • Lead and coordinate the employer outreach services and programs related to employer and professional connections for student recruitment, including undergraduate, graduate, and online students.
  • Develop relationships with companies, non-profit organizations, and alumni to identify and expand recruiting opportunities for students; understand and seek ways to serve employer recruitment needs.
  • Cultivate relationships and foster connections with employers who have expressed an interest in Illinois students.
  • Partner with and expand relations with recruiters, Grainger College of Engineering alumni, faculty, staff/departmental stakeholders, University administrators and external constituents on corporate recruiting/career events.
  • Host recruiters during campus visits maintaining a professional, service-oriented environment.
  • Leverage technology including Handshake and Salesforce to track and report on employer engagement and recruiting activities.
Programs and Coordination
  • Create programs and services that engage employers and alumni and enhance professional opportunities for students including Employer Web Chats, employer led information sessions, panels, etc.
  • Lead overall strategy of the Career Fair and other campus recruiting events and activities for students, employers, and alumni.
  • Direct on-campus interview program including oversight of operations, interview space and reservation management processes.
  • Lead the development and expansion of the corporate Career Partners program.
Administration, Technology, and Leadership
  • Represent ECS on committees and at meetings and events such as career services council and corporate relations roundtable.
  • Serve as ECS representative on employer aspects of campus-wide career services online career management platform.
  • Drive thought leadership for the website and student career management platform, including website updates, training, implementation of updates, and usage statistics as well as evaluate and recommend appropriate related career services duties to further the mission of the office.
  • Collaborates with ECS Director and Assistant Directors to maintain a positive, productive team culture.
  • Assists ECS Director with designated administrative processes (e.g., office email boxes, Handshake, Marketing and Communication, etc.).
  • Sets an example of functional expertise and leadership to Coordinators.
  • Occasional conference and employer engagement related travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A total of three (3) years (36 months) in education, training and/or work experience in employment outreach programming in a university, business, or nonprofit setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with large event planning.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of work experience in a corporate recruiting or career management capacity, preferably in higher education.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of engineering careers.
  • High degree of professionalism.
  • Effective communication skills including excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, implement, manage, and evaluate programs/events and projects and facilitate/execute across multiple work priorities.
  • Excellent customer service and public relations skills, and an ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. The minimum salary for this position is $65,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Work authorization is not available for this position.
