Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Welding and Fabrication Manufacturing Engineer 2/3 based out of Sunnyvale. You will support the manufacturing and testing of marine propulsion and power generation systems working on various manufacturing processes for high-value gearing and steam turbine assemblies, machined components and welded fabrications.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Develop new processes, improve existing manufacturing processes, and develop the required tooling and fixtures with an excellent team of experienced assembly mechanics, machinists, welders and engineers.
  • Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the manufacturing environment.
  • Develop efficient process flows and sequences of operations, optimized production area layouts, manage bills of materials, create detailed work instructions, process procedures and tooling requirements with emphasis on safety, foreign object elimination and equipment/system maintenance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of new capital equipment for establishing expanded production processes.
  • Select roles will also support final acceptance testing of product and provide technical support to test facility operation as necessary.
  • The ability to support multiple production shifts is required (first, second, third shifts, and weekends) based on the assignment and current and future production schedules.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
*This position may be filled at higher level based on the following qualifications*
  • Bachelors in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology Engineering or Math) with 2+ years of relevant work experience; Masters Degree in a STEM discipline with 0 years of relevant work experience.
OR
  • Bachelors in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology Engineering or Math) with 5+ years of relevant work experience; Masters Degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of relevant work experience; 0 Years with PhD.
AND
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience with welding and fabrication.
  • An understanding of heat treatment of steels.
  • An understanding of welding equipment and the design and maintenance of welding systems.
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • The ability of utilize GMAW (Mig) Welding.
  • Experience in welding and faircation of thick section ferrous alloys.
  • Robotics automation experience.
  • Exposure to propulsion and power plant machinery.
  • Exposure or specialization in mechanical assembly processes.
  • Product testing and facility operational experience.
  • Steam plant/boiler, lubricating and hydraulic systems operational experience.
  • Experience leading technical projects requiring project planning, scheduling, resource identification and financial management.
