What you'll do...

The Senior Manager II Data Science is a high impact role that supports our Sam's Club Supply Chain business with a variety of critical responsibilities.

Applied Business Acumen:

  • Develop business cases and solutions for long-term supply chain strategy, collaborating with cross-functional teams to coordinate deliverables, dependencies, and timelines on the capital request process
  • Provide thought leadership to Sam's omnichannel supply chain strategy, including defining business requirements and scope and breaking down data science tasks for the team to implement

Data Source Identification:
  • Guide junior associates on approach to extracting and postprocessing data for model consumption and visualization, including best practices and code optimizations
  • Experience with multiple data platforms, and pros/cons of each (e.g., Teradata, Informix (GLS), Azure Databricks, Google BigQuery)

Data Strategy:
  • Work with the Product team on data migration strategy to ensure data availability needs are met for all modeling work
  • Experience with data engineering to be able to extract, transform and load data for ad-hoc analyses

Problem Formulation:
  • Translate business problems within an analytical framework and communicate requirements to junior data scientists, and support algorithm formulation and pseudocode development
  • Proactively seeks opportunities for continuous improvement

Modeling Assessment, Validation, Deployment & Scaling:
  • Review and deploy simulation and machine learning models and code to implement decision support tools for omnichannel supply chain
  • Guide model selection to junior data scientists, including the selection of training vs. validation data sets, selection of appropriate machine learning models, feature engineering

Data Visualization:
  • Support development of supply chain dashboards and user interfaces for internal support tools where interactivity is needed
  • Create presentations for executive consumption, including using appropriate graphs to formulate the proper storyline

Code Development & Testing:
  • Strong Python and SQL skills to be able to query data and develop prototype tools independently
  • Manage code repository with documentation to streamline modular coding and new hire onboarding in GitHub

Others:
  • Strong communication skills, develop relationships across all relevant teams, including merchandising, product, inventory, other supply chain teams, and continuously seek opportunities to provide deep analytical support
  • Supervise and develop junior data scientists, including mentoring outside of the direct team

About the Team: The Sam's Club Supply Chain Team is focused on creating an incredible omnichannel shopping experience, bringing members great products at the best prices. Team members work cross-functionally with finance, operations, ecommerce, product, merchandising, membership and marketing. Option 3: 7 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
