Overview

Job Description:

The Monitor Technician is a member of the patient care team who functions under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse. The responsibilities of the Monitor Technician include interpreting heart rhythms, noting irregularities in electronic medical records, ensuring that heart monitors are functioning correctly, and reporting to the medical staff in charge of the patients. Under supervision the Monitor Technician is responsible for the placement and scanning of Holter and event monitors, analysis of ECG rhythms and documentation.

Monitor Technician may handle medication that is delivered by the Pharmacy either directly or via the pneumatic tube system and to transport the medication to an appropriate storage area or to another employee who is qualified to administer medication. Successful Monitor Technicians should have excellent analytical and technical skills, detail-oriented, as well as adaptability to change based on evidence-based practice. Ultimately, top performers should have a strong working knowledge of medical equipment and software, as well as good communication skills when interacting with patients and care staff.

Qualifications/Education/Licensure:

High school graduate or equivalent. Ability to work as Lead Monitor Technician after 12 months of training. Excellent technical skills for hospital equipment and medical software. CPR certification to be obtained after hire.
