Under limited supervision and direction of the Network Support IT Supervisor, this position will be responsible for planning, design, development, optimization, documentation, maintenance, and performance of the network hardware/software used by the Office of the Chief Information Officer to support the State of Nebraska's data communication network.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Examples of Work
The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:

• The individual in this position will possess the skills to be able to configure, install and document all aspects of a network such as the enterprise Core and Edge switches.

• Ability to optimize network performance and diagnose and resolve network and system problems expeditiously. Some after hours and weekend work may be required.

• Perform installation, operation, trouble shooting, and repair of network hardware/software provided by the Office of the CIO to include hardware/software, network security, Ethernet core, and edge switches.

• Maintaining current Knowledge of the principles and practices of project management; concepts, components, features, and processes of current communication networks/systems such as hardware, software, internet connections, and typology configurations; industry standards, and analysis and design techniques concerning communication network/system technologies, connections, and infrastructures.

• Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIRED:

Associate's or other similar two year technical degree in computer engineering/science, communications/electronic equipment, or related discipline of study AND three to five years of work experience strategic work planning, and conducting the installation, maintenance, and upgrade of equipment and components of a large communications network in addition to performing the analysis of network/electronics equipment and preparing related technical recommendations; three additional years of applicable work experience can be substituted for a degree.

PREFERRED:

• Good written and oral communications skills are necessary.
• Knowledge in Windows networking and troubleshooting is also required.
• Knowledge of Network Access Control
• Advanced working knowledge of network security devices
• Cisco and/or Juniper Network certifications
• Knowledge of Cisco ISE, Cisco DNA Center
• Remote Client VPN Solution troubleshooting and administration

OTHER:

• This position requires rare overnight travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation.
• Regular and reliable attendance is required for the position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Extensive knowledge of information technology theory, principles, and practices.
• Advanced knowledge of computer hardware, software, local and wide area network systems.
• Knowledge of client/server network protocols and Internet/Intranet applications.
• Extensive knowledge of troubleshooting data networks and troubleshooting tools.
• Skill in delivering responsive, quality customer service.
• Ability to write clear and concise documentation of systems and procedures.
• Ability to successfully apply information engineering techniques; ability to design a data centered information system; ability to effectively design and use relational databases; ability to effectively test and debug systems and programs.
• Ability to accurately estimate time and cost requirements in project
development and implementation.
• Ability to read, understand and apply information from technical manuals.
• Ability to plan, organize, meet schedules and timelines for assigned work.
