Purpose

The Grid Model Enhancement Project (GMEP) at Central Maine Power is a 4-year (2022-2025) project with a CapEx budget of ~$12.6M. GMEP is a cornerstone for grid modernization efforts and essential initiative to enhance the processing of large-scale Distribution Energy Resource (DER) interconnection applications, calculating Distributed Generation hosting capacities, review non-wire alternative solutions, and to identify new projects or potential upgrades to mitigate current reliability concerns.

The GMEP project deliverables will improve the accuracy of the physical and electrical data represented in Avangrid information systems. The updated data model will allow for advanced analysis, monitoring, control, planning, and forecasting of the Electric Distribution System.

As a transformational project, GMEP identifies and implements changes in the processes and responsibilities in all areas of the Companies from initial planning through field execution with a focus on efficient and transparent end to end asset data lifecycles.

This position within the GMEP CMP team will play a key role in the success of all asset data management related activities, and reports to the Sr. Technical Project Manager - GMEP within Processes and Technologies (P&T).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate across multiple functional areas including Electric Operations, Asset Management, Distribution Planning, P&T, Customer Service, Metering, GIS Operations, and IT, to meet project requirements.
  • Lead, manage, and develop solutions to refine and enhance data source system interfaces between complex systems (SAP, GIS, Siemens Spectrum; Eaton CYME, AMI, etc.).
  • Develop and document sustainable business processes, protocols, and tools prior to conducting field inventory.
  • Develop desired state data migration process.
  • Implement automated processes leveraging technology to enhance data collection and data maintenance.
  • Perform GIS, CYME, DER Database, and all other source system configuration requirements.
  • Develop testing scripts, lead the testing, and implement automated processes.
  • Coordinate with GMEP core team to develop appropriate RFP specifications.
  • Assists QA / QC effort to confirm captured data (Field Inventory & Maintenance) is completed correctly, meets stakeholders' requirements.
  • Evaluate asset data prioritization, equipment naming conventions and ensure alignment across systems and in the field.
  • Assist with software licensing requirements and support.


  • Skills and Requirements

    Education & Experience Required:
    • Bachelor's degree required. Master's Degree preferred.
    • Knowledge of Information Technology design, architecture, and system interfaces.
    • 5 to 7 years of IT / Program Engineer experience on medium-large scale projects.
    • Experience with external resources.
    • Experience working with IT from development of use cases, requirements identification, software implementation, testing methodologies, and implementation of automation enhancements.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Project, SharePoint, Teams).

    Preferences:
    • Employment experience with a Gas or Electric utility is a plus.
    • Knowledge of Electric Operations current processes to record, gather, and maintain data, and experience working with Electric Operations.
    • Knowledge of Distribution Planning processes, and criticality of filling data gaps, and experience working with Distribution Planning.
    • Knowledge and experience navigating the Procurement Process.
