GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Psychiatric and Neurodevelopmental Genetics Unit (PNGU), based in the Center for Genomic Medicine (CGM), and Department of Psychiatry at the Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston), is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic candidates for a Senior Data Analyst position. Working with a multidisciplinary team under the direction of principal investigator Dr. Erin C. Dunn (www.thedunnlab.com) at MGH, applicants will contribute to innovative projects funded by the NIMH and other entities to identify risk and protective factors linked to depression. Our overarching goal is to identify possible sensitive periods in development, or life stages when the brain is highly plastic and experience, including stress exposure, can impart more enduring effects on risk for depression.

The Senior Data Analyst will work with multiple types of data, including longitudinal data from large birth cohort studies. Many of these datasets have genetic, epigenetic, and other 'omic markers. The Analyst will also be responsible for supervising the work of junior data analysts.

Successful applicants will have a strong research background with 2-5 years of experience in applied data analysis. Must be proficient with R. Candidates must have a MA degree or higher in a related field (e.g., epidemiology; biostatistics) with an ability to conceptualize and conduct complex analyses, proven ability to work well independently and in a collaborative environment, fluency with all modes of communication in English, and strong writing skills.

This is a highly unique opportunity for someone seeking an interdisciplinary experience to work with a large collection of data while receiving outstanding team-based mentorship. Our highly collaborative and dynamic research environment includes scientists and trainees at MGH, Harvard Medical School, and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform complex data acquisition, storage, cleaning, and pre-processing
  • Performs advanced quantitative statistical analysis methods
  • Dissemination of results via conferences and journal publication
  • Acts as a statistical subject matter expert and resource for numerous projects


Qualifications
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis approaches (e.g., linear and logistic regression; longitudinal analyses)
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced, highly collaborative and supportive environment
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in response to changing deadlines and the needs of the lab
  • Database management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent quantitative and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work well in collaborative environment
  • Ability to perform complex statistics or biostatistics, data mining, database management, and computer programming (e.g., SAS, R, Unix).

EDUCATION:
  • MA degree or higher in a related field (e.g., epidemiology; genetics/epigenetics).

EXPERIENCE:
  • 2-5 years of experience in managing complex data required.
