YOUR ROLE:

This position within our Global Sourcing Marketing & Sales team will support the fast- growing Global Innovative Medicine Franchises - Oncology and Neurology - as well as EMD Serono Inc., the Healthcare business in the US of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and execution of strategic programs for marketing services to support the organization and drive operational excellence, value creation and risk management. Marketing services cover a wide range of strategic and revenue-growth focused areas of spend including agencies, business intelligence, congresses, media, promotional materials and patient care programs. This role will leverage relationships within the various business entities and across the organization to achieve best total value, highest supplier performance and minimize risk. This position is responsible, in cooperation with the global procurement leadership and category management, for successful execution of global sourcing strategies. Efficient project allocation, data analysis and reporting as well as strong supplier management are essential tasks of this role. The Sourcing Manager is expected to lead procurement negotiations and deliver best total value in terms of cost, quality, delivery and innovation through the use of strategic sourcing best practices. You will report to the Head of Sourcing, Marketing & Sales Healthcare, North America and Global Innovative Medicine Franchises, based in the Rockland, Massachusetts location and work closely with Procurement and Marketing teams across the globe.

Who you are:

At least 7+ years of work experience Sourcing indirect spend including services

BA degree in finance, marketing, science, engineering, or similar area

Proven negotiation skills and procurement compliance knowledge

Project management and skills.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills (written and verbal)

Interdisciplinary, intercultural, influence, and networking skills

Highly customer focused

Fluent English language

PREFERRED:

Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or similar certification desirable

Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification desirable

Superior computer skills (Word, Excel) SAP Ariba eSourcing tool knowledge

International experience

Graduate degree

German language a plus

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Structures and leads high complexity programs to drive value for the businesses.
  • Frequently communicates program progress to leadership, stakeholders and team.
  • Identifies and elevates areas of highest risk and supports multi-functional teams to develop actionable risk mitigation strategies.
  • Prepares documentation templates and other program materials to justify selection and award as well as performance and results.
  • Develops strong partnerships for collaboration and teaming across multiple functions to establish and conduct programs.
  • Ability to assess service processes and collaborate with internal and external resources to make recommendations for process improvement and value contribution opportunities.
  • Identify improvement projects and manage cross functional implementation to improve performance of key components and suppliers.
  • Performs other duties & projects as assigned.
  • Some international travel may be required

  • Drive Total Cost of Ownership reductions for category.
  • Coordinate across corporate, functions, divisions to share best practices and adherence to guidelines.
  • Understands the overall needs of multiple business units and to negotiate an accepted portfolio meeting the most strategic needs of the category.
  • Measure and track internal performance
  • Advise business unit(s) about similar strategies employed by other healthcare companies.
  • Manage initiatives that span virtual teams across the world and cross cultures.
RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
  • Influence and partner with business leaders (Manager, Director) to manage and align the category. Closely collaborate with adjacent business departments, and external partners to ensure adequate and timely delivery of agreed services, in line with agreed service levels.
  • Partner and collaborate with key staff in support of cross divisional business initiatives, explore synergies and efficiencies.
  • Maintain strategic relationships with key vendors and Healthcare company counterparts.
  • Manage ongoing Supplier relationships.
  • Implement agreed purchasing strategies for category
  • Initiate a collaborative environment among stakeholders
  • Maintain strong relationships across functions, demonstrating added value
  • Ensure optimal balance between value for money and cost savings, while ensuring quality and good customer service
  • Monitor market dynamics for category across regions
  • Continually look for opportunities for cost reductions and cost avoidance.
  • Participate in category projects across business unit based on category expertise.

  • Lead project teams.
  • Confronts and deals with people issues in a constructive and timely manner.

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate policies and procedures.
