Overview

IT Solution Architect

Solution Architect is accountable for technical integrity, system quality, fitness-for-purpose, and conformance to the enterprise architecture of business and technical solutions. Solution Architect has overall responsibility for the design of one or more solutions across multiple subject areas and technology platforms. Will be responsible for working with other architects and subject matter experts to ensure that their solutions are in alignment with the standards, target architectures and roadmaps for those areas.

Responsibilities

Business Alignment

  • Ensure the technical integrity, system quality, and fitness for purpose of IT solutions in support of the business goals.
  • Work with business analysts/consultants and design teams to develop requirements for systems that cross multiple subject areas.
  • Initiate and lead business and technical discussions with appropriate stakeholders, analyze requirements and design, present and champion solutions that meet those requirements.
  • Participate in financial estimates on projects and assignments.


Solution Delivery
  • Create the overall architecture and high-level design for a specific solution/project.
  • Initiate discussions with third parties, perform in-depth reviews and analysis of their solutions, document architecture models and make recommendations for adopting or partnering.
  • Ensure that the solution conforms to the enterprise architecture standards and technology roadmaps and escalate issues to the project team and enterprise architects as appropriate.
  • Identify and involve appropriate stakeholders in the discussion on the solution's architecture.
  • Ensure adherence to project development life-cycle standards including design and code review processes.
  • Identify, create and maintain appropriate solution architecture artifacts throughout the lifecycle of a project.
  • Review change requests and assess their impact to the architecture of a solution and to the overall enterprise architecture landscape.
  • Identify the organizational (skills, processes, structures, culture) and financial impact of solutions.
  • Analyze production environments for architectural constraints or deficiencies and champion resolution designs.


Architecture Governance
  • Identify and escalate issues, gaps or misalignments in the enterprise architecture.
  • Work with the enterprise architects and other solution architects to ensure project fit with the technology roadmaps.
  • Identify, create, extend and maintain reusable architectural patterns to facilitate development of future solutions.
  • Represent a project during architectural discussions and architectural reviews of a project.
  • Actively contribute to development of AmTrust's enterprise architecture framework, including definition of architecture processes, deployment of architecture tools and standardization of architecture information.


Other
  • Review designs and provide insight into potential sources of problems along with resulting workarounds or resolutions.
  • Monitor and analyze industry trends and best practices and help define and implement standards and principles that drive architecture at AmTrust.
  • Contribute to development of a multi-year technology roadmap in support of the business capability needs.
  • Contribute to mapping out and maintaining architectural descriptions of the enterprise.
  • Provide consultative and thought-partner expertise to IT and business leadership on solution architecture topics.
  • Mentor and develop less experienced technical resources.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, systems analysis or a related field of study, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 6 years of practical (non-academic) experience designing, managing or developing applications in a client/server, service-oriented architecture
  • Deep level expertise in one or more of the following: application architecture, data architecture, integration architecture, network design, middleware, servers and storage, or database management.
  • Exposure to working in a diverse IT environment with multiple integrated systems, configurations, technologies and processing environments.
  • Experience with designing solutions using Microsoft and/or Java technology stacks.
  • Experience with messaging, web services, and integration technologies.
  • Familiarity with common software architecture patterns (e.g. event driven architecture, microservices, MVC, REST etc.)
  • A strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Experience in architecture modeling techniques and standards.
  • Experience with insurance/financial industry is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills especially in areas of teamwork, facilitation, influence, and negotiation.
  • Passion for documentation.
  • Travel as needed (up to 10%).
