CobbFendley is seeking a Senior Fiber Optic Splicer in our McAllen, Texas office.


QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate’s most important qualifications include the following.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Minimum of 5 years of fiber splicing experience
  • Solid understanding of GPON or other PON technologies
  • Working knowledge of a variety of splicing tools, equipment, and techniques
  • Knowledge of fiber optic testing, including the use of an OTDR and OLTS
  • FOA CFOT certification or equivalent
  • Safety training as required by specific projects
  • Ability to adhere to Local, Federal regulations and Company policies
  • Ability to drive company vehicles safely and responsibly, operate a bucket truck, and tow a splicing trailer

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Prepare and splice single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cabling in indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Perform cable entries to mid-span, mid-sheath and ring cut both loose-tube and ribbon fiber optic cabling.
  • Build out proper optical termination enclosures, fiber access terminals, fiber distribution hubs, and fiber splice enclosures.
  • Perform grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage, and sealing fiber optic cabling and enclosures in indoor and outdoor environments according to industry standards.
  • Install additional cabling infrastructure, including but not limited to fiber distribution panels, rack-mountable housings, splice cassettes, multi-port service terminals, and isolation lever test stations.
  • Read and interpret design drawings, blueprints, cut sheets, staking sheets, installation guides, and standards manuals.
  • Complete daily production reports, keep track of work hours and track daily production.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate splicing records, as-builts and redlines, and splicing diagrams.
  • Complete site surveys to verify construction diagrams, determine site installation materials (specifically splicing materials), ascertain site installation/construction scope and extent of work for fiber optic installations.
  • Ensure compliance with ANSI/TIA/EIA 588-B Commercial Building Telecommunication Cabling Standard, the National Electrical Safety Code, NECA/FOA, and other applicable local and national codes concerned with quality and safety.
  • Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as OSHA, FCC, NESC, and NEC, etc.; as well as following procedures as outlined in the Installation, Technical, Operations, and Safety Manuals, and Employee Handbook).
  • Clean, maintain, stock, and secure an assigned vehicle, tools, and equipment.
  • Operate vehicles and other equipment safely; adhere to safety protocols; report hazards and risks; behavior contributes to a safe and secure working environment.
  • Perform other duties as requested by Construction Manager.
  • Work with minimal supervision and deliver accurate work product that is error free.
  • Adhere to CobbFendley’s safety standards to uphold a safe and efficient environment.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and fulfill responsibilities with integrity.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Physical mobility in and around construction sites, traffic work zones, and other field assignments
  • Alert and responsive while working in lane closure zones adjacent to high volume average daily traffic
  • Ability to carry equipment and supplies in remote, rural, or urban surroundings
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds and walk long distances
  • Walking and climbing on uneven surfaces
  • Repeated motions (e.g., reaching, bending, stooping, carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, and handling)
  • Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time
  • Mobility within the office including movement between floors and workstations
  • Repeated motions (e.g., typing, reaching, bending, lifting, and carrying)
  • Communication with other employees and clients


ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments (approximately 80% of duties to be performed outdoors in the field and 20% performed indoors in the office/warehouse)
  • Ability to withstand extreme weather conditions (i.e. hot and freezing temperatures)
  • Driving for extended periods of time
  • Use of electric power tools, cutting tools and other equipment
  • Potential watercraft use
  • Noise exposure
  • Exposure to allergens including but not limited to poison ivy, sumac, dust, pollen, cedar, etc.
  • Entering confined spaces
  • Exposure to construction and traffic work zones
  • Extended periods of Personal Protective Equipment use


EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM CST.
