This position will support the activities in the instructional and research labs of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, including the Cleanroom. The Senior Engineer will also work with faculty and students on research and instructional projects, including the purchase of materials and supplies.
Schedule and monitor the maintenance and repair of equipment in both the instructional and research ECE labs.
Develop semiconductor processes, implement those processes, update & install new equipment in the Cleanroom, research labs, and instructional labs.
Work with faculty and students to ensure proper lab safety and processes are followed.
Purchase, stock, and issue equipment, electronic components and lab supplies to students for numerous instructional courses & some research activities in the instructional labs, research labs, and the Cleanroom.
Provide expert guidance and contribute to research projects for a broad group of research active faculty.
Direct overall and day to day operations of the Cleanroom/Semiconductor Processing Lab.
Train TAs in the proper use of chemicals, processing equipment, safety equipment, and lab procedures in the Cleanroom and other research labs.
Safety training for laboratory users.
Interface with Risk Management to maintain and improve lab safety throughout the building.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree is preferred. A degree in an Engineering related field is preferred.
Five years professional work experience is required.
Multi-year experience of silicon and compound semiconductor processing is preferred. A background working with semiconductor processing equipment (use and repair) is preferred.
Basic understanding of analog and digital components and circuits is a plus.
Experience with goal-oriented customers is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have a thorough understanding of silicon and III-V semiconductor processes (photolithographic procedures, deposition techniques, etching processes (wet and dry etches), and thermal related processes).
Able to develop processes and train graduate and UG students and lab users for use of those processes and safety procedures on projects and grants.
Must be able to document equipment use, cleanroom costs and revenue, and process invoices related to cleanroom use.
Must have knowledge of vacuum system repair.
Candidate must have excellent oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
This position requires candidates to possess strong written communication skills, including proper usage of grammar and punctuation, as well as the ability to produce error-free communications.
Strong multi-tasking and problem-solving skills are necessary.
A strong attention to detail and organizational skills is necessary. Candidate must be able to work independently or on a team.
