Job Description

GPI is seeking two (2) Safety Specialists to work with the existing safety team and associated groups to ensure that employees follow health and safety regulations and supervise operations to promote the wellbeing of our team.

In this role, based on location, you will oversee virtually and in-person either in our Northern, Central, or Southern region.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Director of Corporate Safety and Health for issues regarding their associated coverage areas
  • Serve as the Point of Contact for Local Safety Representatives for assistance with the Health, Safety, and Environmental programs associated with the ongoing projects
  • Provide assistance to the companies' Designated Competent Persons for their associated Standard
  • Work with the existing safety team and required corporate groups (Legal, Human Resources, Communication, Education, etc.) in revising, developing, and implementing health, safety, and environmental (HSE) strategies and action plans that define and follow the Safety Team's Mission and ensure the company's commitment to a proactive HSE culture
  • Perform Root Cause analysis for safety-related incidents, then follow up with a Lessons Learned document for companywide distribution
  • Develops and conducts training of staff at all levels in HSE issues and responsibilities
  • Ensuring compliance with HSE legislation and keeping up to date with regulations and legislation
  • Conduct client field surveillance visits, audits, create documentation/reports and publish findings and recommendations in a timely manner
  • Work with communication group to provide awareness of pending and upcoming changes to all HSE-related standards and regulations to ensure the Company is prepared for future compliance requirements
Qualifications:
  • Full-time safety 3 years (Heavy Construction, Roadway, Bridge, Coatings)
  • Bachelor's CIH(Preferred)but CSP, ISP, or equivalent will be considered
  • Current OSHA 500 Trainer (Preferred)
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications (Preferred)

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Possess a personal vehicle for use on or around a job site
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails, and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to stand for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hours
  • Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19\" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
  • Able to climb and leave a ladder to a platform varying from 6' to 20'
  • Able to operate a mechanical aerial lift or bucket truck up to a height of 100 feet
  • Able to wear and operate personal fall arresting apparatus, and work at a height 6' or higher
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
  • Able to move equipment or inspection specimens weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Able to work in a confined space by the definition of OSHA Construction Standards 29CFR 1926
  • Able to wear and work utilizing a respirator or SCBA type of breathing apparatus
