OU Health Services at Goddard Health Center is the ambulatory care facility on the Norman campus providing primary care services to students, faculty, staff, and dependents. We provide in-house medical laboratory and x-ray services, have a physical therapy department, and full-service pharmacy.Performs professional nursing duties such as physician assistance, sample collection, information gathering, patient follow-up, data collection, medication administration, collaboration, patient education, emergency response, and patient preparation.JOB DESCRIPTION:

  1. Nursing Procedures. Performs various duties and procedures such as EKGs, ear lavages, allergy serum injections, and administering IV fluids.
  2. Sample Collection. Collects samples from patients including blood, urine, etc. Prepares samples for analysis or shipment.
  3. Information Gathering. Takes and records various readings such as heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, weight, body temperature, etc.
  4. Patient Follow-Up. Answers medical questions from patients, family, etc., both in person and on a dedicated nurse phone line.
  5. Medication Administration. Under direction of physician or other medical personnel, administers medication and injections to patients.
  6. Collaboration. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to provide efficient quality patient care.
  7. Physician Assistance. Assists physician during the examination as needed. Ensures that all information is available to the physician.
  8. Patient Education. Provides educational information to patients, family, etc., including travel health education and consultation.
  9. Emergency Response. Responds to and intervenes in emergencies such as anaphylaxis, hypoglycemia, hypotension, respiratory distress, etc.
  10. Patient Triage. Performs general health assessments and triages patients for priority care. Orders tests or procedures per protocols.
  11. Vaccine Administration. Administers vaccines, including influenza, COVID-19, childhood immunizations, and travel immunizations. Flu/COVID-19 immunization clinic coordination.
  12. COVID-19 Related Duties. Answer patient and campus questions related to COVID-19 related illness and exposure. Provide COVID-19 vaccines and care for patients who may have COVID-19.
  13. Inventory. Inventory management including supply ordering.
  14. As Needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position. Including, but not limited to: infection control, employee health, travel consultations, special clinic coordination, staff training, and in-service presentations.


Job Location
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree in Nursing.Skills:
  • Advanced knowledge of techniques needed to diagnose and treat illness or injury-related issues, to include, but not limited to, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health care measures.
  • Advanced knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Ability to give full attention to what is being said and understand the points being made. 
  • Ability to ask questions when appropriate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with staff, physicians, visitors, vendors, and patients in a tactful, diplomatic, and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
  • Well organized and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to build and maintain rapport with students, faculty, staff, and providers.
  • Ability to solve problems.
Certifications:
  • State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse Licensure or the ability to obtain the licensure within 90 days of employment in the position.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. 
Advertised Physical Requirements:
  • Standing for prolonged periods. Regular bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing.
  • Frequent exposure to odors and exposure to human blood, blood products, bodily fluids and potential exposure to infections or diseases.
Departmental Preferences:
  • 25 months or more experience in clinical setting
