The Quality Management Program is a structured, systemic process involving a hospital-wide commitment and participation in planning and implementing continuous improvements in clinical quality for all patients. The incumbent must be a prepared nurse that directs the development and coordination of the clinical research quality program for UHealth Nursing. The Nurse Scientist enhances translation of evidence to practice for quality patient care and contributes to the professional development of staff. This individual provides guidance for the development of nursing and inter-professional research studies. This individual will be accountable for overseeing execution of research deliverables and will lead the research team to achieve research goals and objectives. The Director of Quality, RN Scientist is responsible for the administration of the Nursing Quality Management Program including an ongoing identification and monitoring of quality indicators and outcomes, coordinating, and analyzing data, and establishing and achieving hospital wide as well as department specific objectives of the program consistent with the mission and vision of the organization. The Director of Quality, RN must also ensure continuous collaboration with the risk management and safety programs, as well as compliance with TJC standards and other regulatory agencies, in fulfillment of quality management responsibilities. Collaborates closely with Clinical Care Transformation and is responsible for collaborating with university professionals to recommend and facilitate implementation of assigned objectives that impact Nursing quality performance for the System.

  • Provides enhanced translation of evidence to practice for quality patient care and contributes to the professional development of staff
  • Provides guidance for the development of nursing and inter-professional research studies
  • Accountable for overseeing execution of research deliverables and will lead the research team to achieve research goals and objectives of System's nursing staff
  • Maintains sufficient knowledge of TJC, Federal and State regulations and PRO activities to ensure hospital and medical staff activities are following regulations
  • Assist with Implementation and maintaining a written Quality Management Plan, along with related policies and procedures, consistent with the mission and vision of the organization and in compliance with the TJC and other regulatory agency standards
  • Assist with annual review of the effectiveness of the Quality Management Plan and related Policies and Procedures, and reviews and revises the Plan, its Program Goals and Objectives, and all related Policies and Procedures as necessary
  • Develops and continuously monitors an internal reporting structure for quality management and related activities. Ensures the timely reporting of quality data to appropriate individuals through a systematic and defined multidisciplinary process
  • Assists committees and departments with PI planning, organization, design of monitoring systems, implementation of study topics and follow-up activity, as necessary. Coordinates timely reporting through the defined, formal reporting structure
  • Educates faculty, administration, and staff in the identification of opportunities for improvement and methods of collecting, analyzing, and reporting of findings and improvement strategies
  • Collaborates with the Risk Manager, Patient Safety Officer, and Environment of Care Safety Officer in the identification of opportunities for improvement in the areas of clinical quality and patient safety
  • Serves as a representative and/or liaison with the various hospitals, committees and departments concerning quality management related matters, expediting efficiency of action to the maximum extent possible
  • Coordinates agendas and prepares and delivers reports at various committee meetings including, but not limited to, all Performance Improvement committees, Medical Executive Committee, and Board of Governors

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
  • Requires a master's degree in Nursing with a valid State of Florida Registered Nurse license.
  • Certified Professional Healthcare Quality preferred.
  • CITI certification may be required if intend to conduct academic or clinical research.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a quality management leadership role, reporting and analysis in a clinical or healthcare environment with strong broad clinical background based in research.
  • Must have experience leading teams responsible for healthcare analytics.
  • Effective relationship management skills and ability to build successful collaborations across programs and multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs, Excel (pivot tables), PowerPoint, Word, and complex data analysis. Strong understanding of statistical software and qualitative data management.
  • Advanced or expert knowledge of PC applications, Microsoft Office related tools to formulate complex queries to extract system data. Has experience to extract, analyze database elements, develop spreadsheets, word processing and other applications to present statistical data, reporting trends, and measuring performance. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret business and user needs and translate them into technical requirements.

Preference given to any combination of the following experiences:
  • Coursework, continuing education completion of quality and patient safety, clinical informatics, patient centered outcomes, quality improvement, and related topics.
  • Experience with EpicCare Ambulatory Core EMR (EpicCare Ambulatory, Care Everywhere, MyUHealth chart, Workbench)
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of value-based care, including familiarity with barriers to high-value care.
