Position Summary:

This is the journeyman level position and will be expected to be able to work independently. Psych Techs must have the ability to work on call for all shifts within a 24-hour framework Responsible for the delivery of psychiatric rehabilitation services to adult clients with developmental disabilities and/or mental disorders in the assigned facility. Provides therapeutic intervention as indicated in the client's treatment or rehabilitation plan. Provides crisis intervention as needed. May conduct psychosocial assessments if trained to do so. May do substance abuse assessments and/or treatment if certified. Assist with escorting clients within Bethel and outside of Bethel, when needed. Psych techs are expected to be an active participant in client social, educational and therapeutic activities. Must be able to take direction and have a commitment to learning. Psych techs be 18 years old.

Position Qualifications:

  • AA Degree in a Human Services field, or a minimum of two years experience working in an adult residential treatment, psychiatric, or developmental disabilities program. Must be willing to learn, take direction, learn and implement Non Violent Crisis Intervention training and all other required trainings by time specified.
  • Medication Management (Before working a shift alone)
  • CPR/First Aid (Within six months of hire)
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention (Within one year of hire)
  • Must have a valid Alaska Driver's License at time of hire.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Basic computer knowledge, accuracy and dependability a must.
  • Ability to work residential treatment environments. Ability to write progress reports on clients, which accurately reflect client progress. Ability to read medication administration records. Ability to add and subtract. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of rapidly changing situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to understand and apply to variety of instruction furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to appropriately respond to aggressive and violent client behaviors.
