Examples of Work
State of Nebraska Probation is seeking an entry-level position of Probation Officer Trainee which involves job orientation and training under close supervision for a period of one year to afford the trainee an opportunity to gain experience and develop ability. Work within this position includes performing a variety of duties ranging from conducting court investigations to the case management of offenders. Become familiar with various types of presentence/ predisposition investigation (PSI/PDI) reports through formal training and observation and complete PSI/PDI reports under close supervision. You will complete training in appropriate drug and alcohol testing procedures, become familiar with local district intake procedures and become familiar with policies and procedures associated with the electronic monitoring of offenders and related equipment.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in the social sciences, criminal justice, or related fields.

All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of individual and group behavior
• Ability to write the required reports, case plans and chronological notes
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients, judges, school personnel, law enforcement and families
• Ability to read and interpret police reports, mental health evaluations and chemical evaluations
• Ability to organize and utilize time properly and maintain workload of writing reports and supervising clients
• Ability to motivate clients toward self-improvement
