Position Summary:

The purpose of this position is to help achieve the vision of Loyola University Medical Center Pharmacy Services and Cancer Service Line by performing chemotherapy preparation in a cost effective, results oriented, and customer focused manner. The oncology technician, under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist shall prepare sterile and non-sterile medications, order, receive and stock drug and supply inventories, maintain a USP 797 sterile compounding area. The individual shall be cross-trained to work at multiple locations as assigned by the manager on as needed to provide support for oncology pharmacy operations.

Position Requirements:

Minimum Education: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education

Minimum Experience: Required: 1-2 years' experience with Sterile IV compounding.

Preferred: Experience in chemotherapy and supportive care.

Licensure/Certifications:

Required: Registered Pharmacy Technician (IL); Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT),

Position Responsibilities: Responsible for the accurate and safe compounding of medication admixtures in an environment set forth by USP 797 chapter and organization policies and procedures. The individual shall also handle hazardous drugs according to USP 800 and NIOSH recommendations. Other responsibilities shall include maintaining a clean room for sterile compounding, performing routine quality assurance monitoring, complying with regulatory and institutional guidelines for the disposal of hazardous drug waste, and perform other miscellaneous job related tasks/activities as assigned by the supervising pharmacist.
