Located on the flagship campus of the Indiana University system, SPH-B has more than 2500 enrolled undergraduate and 380 graduate students, 200 faculty, and 95 staff in five departments (Applied Health Science, Environmental and Occupational Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Health & Wellness Design, and Kinesiology). We are in a period of profound growth, as we have hired more than 30 new tenure-track faculty in the last three years. Job Summary

The Chaves lab at the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health is looking for a half time (20 hours per week) lab manager to do field and laboratory work on mosquitoes in Monroe County, Indiana.

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Prepares of field equipment, mosquito sampling, identification and storage.
  • Duties will be related to the 3-d printing and elaboration of traps and familiarization with Indiana mosquitoes, their identification, and knowledge acquisition about mosquitoes in Indiana in January thru March.
  • Works an average of 10 hours outdoors sampling mosquitoes in natural areas within the city of Bloomington in months April thru September.

EDUCATION

Required
  • High school diploma or GED
SKILLS

Required
  • Proficient communication skills
Preferred
  • Ability to use taxonomic keys, morphological insect identification, and basic laboratory and data management skills.
  • Desire to combine an outdoors, lab and data management research experience.

Additional Information

This is a 2 year position starting January 2023

Also, depending on funding availability the time can be increased to 40 hours per week, or if the candidate is interested in working with another faculty member with available funds at the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health.
