The Operations and Site Manager is a senior-level manager in Chicago. The responsibilities are wide-ranging because the job holder will be responsible for ensuring that virtually all aspects of the Chicago facility's activities and initiatives meet the organization's larger strategic mission and vision. The Manager will develop, implement, and oversee departmental strategies and best practices including assuming responsibility for budgetary development and oversight as well as making budget recommendations the site. They develop and modify pay scales as needed to maximize the organization's financial return on investment (ROI) as well as ensuring that all financial transactions conducted by the organization are accomplished efficiently and accurately. They will create frameworks and strategies to ensure efficient and successful navigation and management of the US supply chain. They will hire and train teams that work directly under them to ensure customer satisfaction.

Responsible for the efficient manufacturing and delivery of all Sonoscan products. Meeting the operations business needs by delivering on time, to required quality whilst effectively managing levels of direct labour and Inventory. Measure, track and respond to performance KPI results to support business commitments to the corporation.

The Operations and Site Manager will be involved in diverse areas such as production schedules, operational methods, processes, and establishment of procedures and practices for all departments. Managers take the lead in new product development, quality control, and manufacture of products, and they serve as the point executive for customer satisfaction. They implement, oversee, and guide the facility's continuous improvement initiatives using industry tools targeted at that purpose, such as Six Sigma, TPM, Value Stream Mapping, Goal Deployment, and other suites. Managers are also responsible for ensuring that all the organization's plants and processes comply with all governmental regulations and codes.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Nordson Business System growth framework strategy (NBS Next)
  • Control manufacturing costs in support of product margin targets established by the business area.
  • Responsible for the efficient manufacturing and delivery of all products including all service materials from the US serving a global customer base. Meet the operations business needs by delivering on time, to required quality whilst effectively managing levels of direct labour and Inventory.
  • Ensure alignment with Suzhou operations supporting the Sonoscan business.
  • Measure, track and respond to performance KPI results to support business commitments to the corporation.
  • Ensure production engineering supports delivery, cost reduction, productivity, new product introduction targets for manufacturing
  • Drive and meet continuous improvement and cost targets in support of business profitability targets.
  • As part of the Sales and Operations Process, maintain warehouse contract policy as appropriate, balancing order fulfilment with efficient inventory levels.
  • Implement manufacturing and production engineering continuous improvement processes and global best practices
  • Maintain facility processes and regularly measure the results in support of MXI/BT global business targets in growth, productivity, cost reduction, inventory control, delivery performance
  • Recruit, train and motivate operations personnel in order to support the needs of the supported businesses.
  • Maintain facility processes and regularly measure the results in support of T&I global business targets in growth, productivity, quality, cost reduction, inventory contract, delivery performance.
  • Develop a high performing team in support of the long term human resource goals of the enterprise. Establish training and development programmes as required.
  • Maintain measurement system for the operational aspects of the enterprise.
  • Develop, coach and monitor performance of both direct reports and indirect reports (> 45 personnel)
  • Responsibility for the Chicago site overall including Health and Safety and Facilities.
  • Support the T&I Operations Director as and when required.

Education & Experience Requirement:

Essential
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • 5+ years prior operations experience in a directly related field is essential.
  • Lean, Six Sigma essential - with > 5 years of proven experience
  • Deep Operational Process Know-How - e.g. Planning, SIOP, MRP/ERP processes, Process Transfer Knowledge.
  • Functional Process Know How and Leadership experience:Quality, Purchasing, Materials Management, Production Engineering, NPI, Environmental, Health and Safety
  • Product Assembly experience; High technology system assembly experience essential, semiconductor manufacturing and PCBA manufacturing both are an added advantage
  • People Leadership experience.

Preferred Skills & Abilities:

The role will require very strong organizational skills because the job entails overseeing a large variety of initiatives and personnel devoted to the organization's success. Considerable leadership ability is needed because the manager will oversee processes and establish best practices, policies, and guidelines as well as being able to take initiative in adapting these to ever-changing organizational needs. Excellent written and oral communication skills are imperative because they must provide crucial information to other organization members, customers, and staff regarding all processes related to the organization's overall ventures. Time-management skills must be strong because managers oversee everything from budget implementation, staff hiring, training, and development, to managing supply chain and ensuring regulatory code compliance.
