Nursing Professional Practice and Compliance

The Nurse Specialist assists in the maintenance of clinical integrity and regulatory compliance within the organization. Ensure compliance with Magnet Accreditation requirements in the assigned area. Ensure nursing involvement in Shared Governance in all areas assigned. Promote nursing involvement in Organization Level Councils and Committees to ensure nurse driven institutional change. Educate nursing staff and promote enculturation of Magnet excellence in all assigned areas. Promote nursing involvement in innovation implementation of evidence-based practice in areas assigned. Assist in review of Nursing Sensitive Indicators (NSIs) data and analysis of results. Disseminate results to unit's/department's leaders. Ensure that the results are discussed/shared with the point of care staff. Provide guidance in developing Performance Improvement (PI) action plan(s) that will promote continued performance and nurse sensitive indicators improvement. Promote inter-professional collaboration in Performance Improvement initiatives Educate staff on Magnet Components and Sources of Evidence (SOEs). Educate staff on integration of Magnet related concepts and accreditation requirements. Educate staff on ANA Code of Ethics and Nursing Practice Standards. Educate staff on Relationship Based Care Model and integration into practice. Assist in collecting narratives and information required to comply with SOEs. Promote advancement of the nursing profession through personal and professional development. Work closely with the professional development counterpart to provide nurses in the assigned areas with the tools necessary to promote Professional Growth and continually improve Professional Practice. Work closely with nurses to ensure compliance with Nursing Professional Practice Standards as well as compliance with regulatory standards. Promote enculturation of the Professional Practice Model (Anchored for Excellence) and Dr. Jean Watson's 10 Caritas Processes in assigned areas. Promote involvement of nurses in assigned areas in Magnet related activities and functions.Assists with chart audits for clinical oversight that evaluates the adherence of compliance to the standards of nursing practice as well as the healthcare organization's policies and procedures. Provides guidance in the process of development of action plans with the unit's/department's leader(s). Participates in the orientation of team members. Collaborates with nursing leadership in ensuring staff adheres to the organization's internal policies/standards. Assists in Joint commission preparedness. Participates in performance improvement activities. Maintains ongoing clinical knowledge through internal/external training programs, provide interpretation of knowledge and direction to staff. Identifies gaps in practice that are address through the review of standards, current evidence, review of policy for consistency of content with practice, and communicate training needs to the professional development team for staff training as well as follow-up. Promotes Culture of Nursing Excellence. Educates staff on the 10 Caritas Processes, supports, and promotes integration of caring science into nursing practice. Serves as a role model for caring science and mindful practices as well as promotes establishment of healing environments in all areas where nursing is practiced. Reviews of Nurse Sensitive Indicators (NSIs), Zero Harm, RN Satisfaction, and Patient Satisfaction data to trend results to provide guidance to the Unit Based Practice Councils (UBPCs) and unit's/department's leaders on how to develop improvement initiatives. Serves as leader, consultant, mentor, and change agent to advance nursing practice among all settings across the organization. Collaborates with other interprofessional team members in finding specific evidence-based practice interventions and guidelines that will assist in improving patient care outcomes. Works together with the multidisciplinary team member in an effort to facilitate collaboration with other disciplines to improve outcomes across the continuum of patient care. Pursues scientific knowledge and skills to expand the practice of nursing as well as maintain expert clinical competencies. Assists in coordinating and collaborating to meet the requirements for Magnet Accreditation. Assists in oversight of all deliverables as well as deadlines including document preparation and submission (e.g., site visits, yearly DDCT, interim reports, etc....). Collaborates with leadership in enculturating the Professional Practice Model (Anchored for Excellence) into clinical practice. Assists in maintaining shared governance structure at the organizational as well as at the unit level and serves as mentor to clinical staff in leadership skills at both levels. Collaborates with the Professional Development team to increase knowledge and integration of Magnet Excellence culture as well as standards of nursing practice. Assists in identification, collection, and documentation of Magnet exemplars that will be designated to a specific Magnet Component based on the Sources of Evidence (SOEs). Participates in the development and implementation of the Department of Nursing Strategic Plan that aligns with the organization's strategic plan. Collaborates with the Nursing Professional Practice and Magnet Accreditation Department Executive Director on developing the department's strategic plan that aligns with the Department of Nursing Strategic Plan. Works collaboratively with the interprofessional leadership team members to ensure that the goals of the Nursing Professional Practice and Magnet Accreditation Department are accomplished. Assists in maintaining the integration of research and evidence-based practice. Assists in communicating and effectively translating to nursing leadership, point of care staff, and the interprofessional team members, the goals as well as the expectations/requirements of the Magnet Accreditation Standards Sources of Evidence (SOEs). Promotes the dissemination of best practices internally and within the external healthcare community. Assists in providing education on the following topics: Magnet Accreditation Standards, Nursing Scope and Standard of Practice as well as the healthcare organization's policies. Assists in promoting and developing staff recognition awards. Models the mission, vision, and values of the UMHC Department of Nursing.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

BSN Required but MSN degree preferred.

Certification and Licensing:

Registered Nurse Licensing (RN)

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience

  • Skilled in collecting, organizing, analyzing, and presenting data.
