SUMMARY: Is a Registered Nurse with knowledge and experience in pediatric nursing and one who promotes the delivery of quality care through education via various methods. Collaborates closely with the Education Coordinator, Director of In patient Nursing Services, and Team Leaders in the planning of the education process for nursing staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Functions as a teacher and role model for nursing staff: 60%
    • Demonstrates excellent clinical skills in nursing practices.
    • Participates in the learning activities as a preceptor of orientees based on the orientee's needs.
    • Assesses the clinical needs of all nursing staff.
    • Teaches and monitors the effectiveness of special educational programs/in-services in collaboration with the Education Coordinator, Patient Care Managers, and Director of Nursing
    • Accepts patient assignments with an identified staff member as a preceptor
    • Provides feedback on the staff's clinical needs to Patient Care Managers, and Director of Nursing Services.
  • Maintains clinical expertise:
    • Reviewing and disseminates current information on trends in pediatric nursing. 20%
    • Working collaboratively with members of the Educational Department and Patient Education Committee to ensure appropriate teaching materials are available for family and staff.
    • Coordinates with the Educational Coordinator and conducts preceptor training/mentoring sessions for staff.
    • Participates in data collection forquality management as it relates to patient care.
    Practice and promote effective communication:15%
    • Collaborates with Patient Managers and other departments to ensure the delivery of quality patient care.
    • Interprets hospital and patient care policy efficiently to staff.
    • Accepts membership on committees as a representative for clinical inpatient staff.
    • Actively participates in Nursing Management and Nursing Council meetings.
    Maintains required job skills and professional competencies: 5%
    • Attends required educational sessions.
    • Member of professional organization
    • Attends a minimum of six non-required education sessions per year.
    Job Requirements:

    Qualifications:

    Three years of experience in pediatrics required. Clinical Educator experience preferred.

    Education:

    A graduate of an approved school of professional nursing required. BSN preferred.

    Licensure/Certification:

    Currently licensed as a professional nurse in the State of Illinois required.

    Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in pediatric nursing.

    Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

    Can function as an exceptional role model to staff. Is familiar with policies of regulatory agencies: JCAHO, Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Illinois Nurse Practice Act, Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA). Is able to establish priorities and possesses independent decision-making capabilities.

    CPR required:

    Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross will be accepted.
