Overview

Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is seeking an experienced lead payroll specialist for its Pittsburgh/Monroeville, PA location.

Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is a project engineering organization and a Prime Contractor for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. BPMI provides design, manufacturing, and supply chain management of the fabrication, testing, delivery, installation, and field support of nuclear power plant components installed in submarines and aircraft carriers for the US Navy. In addition, BPMI provides upgraded replacement components in support of refueling and overhaul activities, and aids in the ultimate storage and disposition of spent naval fuel. BPMI also delivers information technology and operational solutions to the Nuclear Navy, enabling them to fulfill their critical mission.
Responsibilities

The payroll specialist serves as the subject matter expert responsible for all BPMI payroll operations for over 1,000 employees who perform work primarily in two states. Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Receive, calculate, and transmit a wide range of payroll related data to and from payroll and timekeeping systems, Human Resources, and third-party benefit vendors for the processing of semi-monthly payroll.
  • Review and adjust pay rates, taxes, and deductions.
  • Process a wide variety of payroll adjustments.
  • Research, resolve, and communicate timely and effectively on pay related inquiries that originate from employees, management, vendors, and government agencies.
  • Ensure payroll is processed and reconciled in compliance with tax regulations, company policies, and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Exercise appropriate high-level discretion in the processing, discussion, and transmitting of sensitive employee and company data.
  • Maintain payroll records and support internal and external audits by various agencies including Defense Contractors Auditing Agency (DCAA).
  • Assist in the preparation of journal entries and reconcile associated payroll ledger accounts.
  • Participate in companywide initiatives for process improvements, operational effectiveness, and system upgrades.
  • Propose and/or reviews long-or short-term business objectives to be included in future business plans as related to payroll operations.
  • Other accounting duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent from an accredited college or university with 7 years or payroll experience required or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent from an accredited college or university with 3 years of payroll experience.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred for applicants with less than five years of work experience.
  • Processing and/or system analyst experience working with ADP Enterprise and SAP Success Factors a plus.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen due to government security clearance requirements. In order to work at BPMI, applicants must complete a Federal background investigation and be granted a security clearance.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment by multi-tasking while still providing significant attention to detail.
