SUMMARY

Bering Straits Technical Services, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified Heavy Equipment Mechanic for Contract #W912D0-18-008/ Ft. Wainwright, AK. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic, occasionally from heights, analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as diesel motors and generators, dump trucks, backhoes, payloaders, graders, snow equipment, pumps, compressors, lifts, fuel dispensing systems, small engine, and commercial grade lawn equipment.
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position, and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects. Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools.
  • Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
  • Replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions.
  • Tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.
  • Welds broken parts and structural members.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications (applies to both this section and KSAO's)
  • High school diploma.
  • Shall have a current and valid State driver's license covering the type of vehicle or equipment being used.
  • Must maintain current commercial driver's license for the type of vehicle being operated.
  • Minimum three years prior experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled shop environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.

During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • No supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
