The Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering (MechSE) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) invites applications for teaching faculty at the ranks of assistant, associate, and full professor in all areas of mechanical science and engineering. We seek highly qualified applicants with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at all levels, with a commitment to scholarship and service. This is a full-time on-campus renewable appointment on an academic year (nine-month) service basis paid over twelve months. A link to the MechSE course offerings may be found at Course List

A Ph.D. in engineering or engineering education or related field is required with experience and training in mechanical engineering, theoretical and applied mechanics, or a related field. Ideal candidates include those who demonstrate evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through research, teaching, and/or service endeavors. Competitive applicants will show the promise of excellence in teaching, and at advanced ranks will possess a strong record of teaching and scholarship in engineering pedagogy and/or disciplinary research.

Successful applicants will join the department's thriving community of creative, passionate, and innovative faculty who contribute to high-quality instruction, curriculum development, and student mentoring. Teaching faculty also engage in research, outreach and service activities, and are expected to develop active research programs in engineering pedagogy, and/or disciplinary scholarship related to the departmental mission.

MechSE at Illinois is growing and anticipates increases in course offerings and enrollments in both graduate and undergraduate programs. With construction of the Sidney Lu Mechanical Engineering Building complete, several important curricular innovations underway, and our active international partnerships, the opportunities to influence engineering education are many.

Interviews and some hiring decisions may take place before the closing dates. Salary is commensurate with qualifications. The preferred starting dates are August 16, 2023 for the Fall 2023 semester.
