Executive Compensation Consultant

Mercer's Executive Compensation group helps companies design, assess, and execute performance measurement and rewards strategies that reinforce business objectives. We do this by understanding our clients' unique strategies, capabilities, and company cultures; and applying our design and analytical skills and in-depth knowledge of global market practices to deliver effective results. Our clients are primarily senior executives and Board members at Fortune 500 companies. Within this context, we help our clients:

  • Analyze company and industry financial performance and calibrate pay levels to performance results
  • Align rewards with value-creating business strategies
  • Translate business strategies and shareholder expectations into performance measurement and goal-setting systems (e.g., annual and long-term incentive program design)
  • Stay abreast of regulatory developments and their implications and monitor global market trends

What can you expect?
  • TheExecutive CompensationConsultant is responsible for producing research-driven data on executive compensation to help clients drive business performance and balance talent and governance risks
  • You will support senior colleagues in the design and implementation of executive compensation and incentive program strategies to attract, reward, and retain executive talent
  • You will analyze clients' financial and compensation data versus market utilizing Excel modelling skills
  • You will create exhibits to compare market compensation data to client compensation data to support client meetings under general review of more senior consultants
  • You will assist senior colleagues in creating comprehensive compensation programs for executives across a spectrum of industries and organizations
  • You will work alongside some of the industry's top consultants and develop cutting-edge technical knowledge and skills

We will count on you to:
  • Perform modeling to determine the valuation and financial impact of various cash and equity incentive programs
  • Perform financial analyses of industry sectors and client peer groups
  • Determine competitive pay positioning through analysis of SEC filings (e.g. proxy statements)
  • Work closely with senior consultants on the project to determine the exhibits to be included in the final client presentations, which typically involves a high level of customization
  • Collaborate with project team on most effective ways to structure analyses and present information to meet client objectives
  • Contribute to the creation of client deliverables
  • Ensure accuracy of proxy analyses
  • Be responsible for the technical part of client presentations to Boards of Directors, senior management, and human resources (and possibly have a speaking role at client meetings to review the technical aspects of the reports)

What you need to have:
  • BA/BS degree required, including significant coursework in finance, economics, statistics, mathematics, human resources and/or accounting, or equivalent work experience preferred
  • At least 2 years' relevant work experience in management consulting, compensation (ideally executive comp), and/or executive benefits
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
  • Excellent analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office-Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Intellectual curiosity; seeking opportunities to develop new skills
  • Ability to work in teams and be flexible to work under tight deadlines and changing client needs
  • Superior organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent project management skills
