Job Description

Position Overview

As an Electrical Engineer II you will be responsible for supporting the operations of Invenergy's Transmission Line assets. You will also be responsible for staying informed on projects in development and construction to prepare for their operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Support operations of HVAC, HVDC, and overhead collection system for all Invenergy generation facilities
  • Provide real time outage support to site teams. This includes troubleshooting, fault location, and restoration efforts
  • Provide operational expertise and design considerations to projects that are in various stages of development
  • Involvement with development of HVDC lines and converter stations to determine operational needs
  • Assist with creating operations plans for HVDC lines and converter stations
  • Develop & coordinate a transmission line inspection program
  • Develop a drone inspection program for transmission lines and overhead collection system
  • Evaluate new technologies for transmission line inspections
  • Review and manage as-built site documentation including electrical drawings, schematics, bill of materials, electrical studies, test reports and relay settings.
  • Lead long-term action items and projects to improve reliability or efficiency of electrical systems.
  • Manage root cause analyses to identify potential future risks, and drive fleet-wide corrective action plans.
  • Conduct reviews of various system studies essential to reliability and steady state operations of fleet.
  • Support project and construction managers on new project commissioning and turnover for transmission line developments.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or equivalent related transmission experience
  • 1-5 years of work experience
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Problem solving and critical thinking
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products
  • Strong project management skills
  • Some travel is required

Preferred Skills
  • Degree concentration in Power Systems or equivalent
  • Experience with overhead line design
  • Experience with utility or renewable operations and maintenance
  • Experience with drones and FAA Part 107
  • Experience with OSIsoft PI products
  • Familiarity with HVDC converter stations
  • Familiarity with underground transmission systems
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NESC, ASCE and ANSI/IEEE standards and codes.
  • Knowledge in compliance and reliability standards associated with NERC, FERC, and ISOs
  • Understanding of Electrical Safety Practices
